UNI’s Housing & Dining Facilities team keeps campus running, and our Facilities Mechanic IIIs are at the heart of it! From residence halls to dining centers, you’ll take on meaningful, hands‑on work that keeps student spaces safe, comfortable and fully functional. If you’re experienced in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry and ready to put your craft to work where it truly matters, this role is built for you.
Under general supervision, performs plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry and all other duties needed to maintain student apartments, residence halls and dining centers.
Must possess a basic knowledge of plumbing, electricity, maintenance of steam and mechanical equipment; and must have four years of work experience in the listed crafts, including apprenticeship or technical training. At least two years of that experience must be in the same craft. State of Iowa license (Electrical, Plumbing or Mechanical) preferred.

The University of Northern Iowa Metal Casting Center is a nationally recognized leader in foundry research, applied technology, and technical business assistance. For more than 25 years, the we have pushed the boundaries on education and research to enhance the metal casting industry. Two facilities allow us to enhance research and testing. The materials research and foundry focused site is located in the Industrial Technology Center (ITC) on campus at UNI. The additive manufacturing center featuring North America’s largest 3D printer is located at Cedar Valley TechWorks in Waterloo.
