Responsibilities
Design and implement SDLC observability pipelines to provide engineering leadership with visibility into team efficiency and software quality indicators. Act as a technical bridge between Quality and Engineering to drive process maturity and eliminate systemic friction.
Requirements
Requires proven experience with modern developer infrastructure, cloud services, and the ability to process data from various tool APIs. Candidates must have a holistic understanding of quality engineering and the ability to drive complex technical initiatives independently.
Full job description
At Squiz, we are building a cloud-based Digital Experience Platform (DXP) designed to power complex content management, optimization tooling, and platform services. Within Quality and Engineering, we believe that world-class software requires engineering rigor, mature development lifecycles, and high operational excellence across all our engineering streams.
We are looking for a Senior Quality Engineer to join our Quality team focusing on metrics and observability. Sitting under Quality and partnering closely with Engineering leadership, this role acts as a key systems catalyst to elevate the maturity, health, and efficiency of our Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
This is a technical, systems-level role for an engineer who understands quality holistically, beyond test automation, and knows how to harness our existing platform APIs (GitLab, AWS, Jira, Confluence, Cloudflare, and Dynatrace) to unlock actionable engineering telemetry. In your first 6-12 months, you will design and implement the mechanisms that provide Engineering Managers and Department Heads with clear observability into team efficiency and developer health, while giving Quality leadership real-time visibility into vital software quality indicators.
The Team Dynamics
We believe great technical and quality leaders should be free to focus on systems, tooling, and operational maturity without management overhead. This is an Individual Contributor role at a Senior level, with zero direct reports.
Reporting directly to the Head of Quality, you will operate as a key enablement partner across Product Engineering, working in close lockstep with the Head of Engineering, Engineering Managers, and Staff Engineers.
This is a permanent position operating on our flexible hybrid model out of Australia’s East Coast, allowing you to balance remote work and in-person collaboration.
What the Work Looks Like Day-to-Day
Build SDLC Observability Pipelines: Harness APIs across GitLab, Jira, AWS, Confluence, Cloudflare, and Dynatrace to collect, aggregate, and visualize core engineering and quality metrics.
Empower Engineering Managers: Deliver self-service dashboards and telemetry that give EMs clear visibility into team health, delivery efficiency, and SDLC bottleneck identification.
Establish Key Quality Indicators (KQIs): Define and automate reporting for critical quality metrics, including Change Failure Rate, Regression Rate, Release Failure Rate, Code Review Depth, and Post-Review Change Rates.
Leverage Existing Tooling & AI Capabilities: Maximize the value of Squiz’s existing stack and AI tooling, such as Cursor, GitLab CI/CD, and Dynatrace to streamline developer workflows without introducing unnecessary vendor complexity.
Drive SDLC & Process Maturity: Analyze engineering practices across teams to identify systemic friction, recommend tooling improvements, and embed quality best practices into the core development flow.
Partner Across Quality & Engineering: Act as a consultative technical bridge between Quality leadership and Engineering Managers to ensure quality standards and delivery velocity advance together.
What We Are Looking For
Proven experience working at a systems level with modern developer infrastructure, git-based workflows (GitLab), AWS cloud services, and production telemetry tools (Dynatrace, Cloudflare).
Strong hands-on ability to query, combine, and process data from tool APIs (Jira, Confluence, GitLab, AWS, Cursor) to build robust reporting and automation pipelines.
A strong holistic understanding of quality engineering, testing strategies, risk analysis, and software development methodologies, going beyond traditional test automation script writing.
Passion for telemetry and metrics, with experience translating complex SDLC data into actionable insights for engineering leadership and management.
Ability to maximize value from existing organizational platforms and tools rather than advocating for unnecessary third-party vendors.
Ability to drive complex technical initiatives independently, influencing engineering teams and stakeholders without formal authority.
