Job Description:
This recruitment will be used to fill multiple part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Office Support positions for the School of Chemical, Biological, and Environmental Engineering (CBEE) at Oregon State University (OSU).
This position serves as an important ambassador for CBEE, supporting both office operations and instructional laboratory activities. The student employee assists the Office Manager by providing professional, welcoming front-desk reception and customer service to faculty, staff, students, and visitors. The position also supports the Development Engineer by assisting with equipment organization, maintenance, inventory management, and preparation of teaching laboratories for instructional use. Students in this role are expected to work effectively with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and visitors while representing CBEE in a courteous, professional, and customer-focused manner.
45% Office and Clerical Support:
Serves as the first point of contact for the school by answering phone calls, greeting visitors, and providing front-desk reception services.
Delivers courteous, professional customer service to faculty, staff, students, and visitors.
Receives incoming and outgoing mail and packages.
Assists with document preparation, confidential data entry, and information gathering.
Supports the coordination and follow-up of work orders and maintenance or repair requests for office spaces and equipment.
40% Teaching Lab support:
Assists with the setup and teardown of laboratory class experiments.
Assists with troubleshooting equipment, maintenance, and basic repairs.
Supports laboratory operations and other activities as needed.
Assists with inventory organization and preparation of laboratory materials and equipment.
Supports laboratory safety and cleanliness by following established procedures and maintaining organized workspaces.
10% Facilities support:
Assists with setup and teardown for school events and attends events as schedules permit.
Performs light maintenance and organizational tasks.
Assists with the installation, relocation, and movement of equipment and furnishings.
5%: Other duties as assigned based on school need.

Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment

Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term
Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term
*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by theOffice of International Services(OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Required Qualifications:
Engineering undergraduate major
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally and effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences in a busy office environment.
Experience using hand tools, laboratory equipment, or technical instrumentation.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, and using online collaboration and file management tools, or the ability to learn software programs quickly.
Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive information.
Preferred Qualifications:
Major in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Bioengineering.
Ability to learn the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
Familiarity with laboratory safety practices and procedures.
Previous customer service, reception, or office experience.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, initiative, and accountability.
Experience supporting laboratory, instructional, or technical environments.
Ability to use technology and office equipment, including mobile devices, phones, and digital cameras.
Willingness to receive coaching and feedback and apply it to customer service, communication, and workplace interactions.
Working Conditions/Schedule:
Work may be performed in classrooms, labs, or copy/supply rooms. Must be able to work between 5 – 20 hours per week.
