You will design, build, and program electronics for a robotic construction platform, managing the full development cycle from schematic capture to field deployment. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate motors, sensors, and firmware into complex robotic systems.
Requirements
Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field and possess strong fundamentals in circuit analysis and embedded programming. Practical experience with PCB design tools, hardware debugging, and motor control systems is required.
Full job description
Company Description
Verustruct is developing a suite of robotic construction technologies to automate the building of affordable, sustainable, safe, and aesthetically appealing housing. The company’s mission is to help close the U.S. housing gap of 4.5 million homes by transforming how residential structures are designed and built. Verustruct focuses on integrating advanced robotics, automation, and novel construction methods into practical, scalable solutions. Team members collaborate across disciplines to bring next-generation construction systems from concept to field deployment, with a strong emphasis on real-world impact and long-term sustainability.
About the Role As an Electrical Engineer, Level I, you will help design, build, and program the electronics at the core of Verustruct's robotic construction platform. Working closely with experienced electrical, mechanical, and robotics engineers, you will contribute across the full electronics-development cycle, including schematic capture, PCB layout, harness design, board bring-up, embedded firmware, motor and sensor integration, testing, failure investigation, and design iteration. In the level I position, you will own well-defined boards, harnesses, and firmware features, and grow toward owning complete electrical subsystems.
This role is designed for an early-career engineer who wants to build real machines, learn quickly, and take on increasing technical ownership as Verustruct advances from full-scale prototypes toward field deployment.
This is a full-time, on-site role based at our headquarters in Torrance, California.
What You'll Do
Design motor-driver, sensor-interface, and power-distribution boards for robotic construction equipment, from schematic and component selection through PCB layout, fabrication, and assembly
Write and debug embedded C firmware on STM32-class microcontrollers for motor control, current sensing, encoder and sensor reading, fault handling, and CAN FD communication
Design wiring harnesses, connectors, and enclosures that survive a construction-site environment, and document them with wiring diagrams and drawings
Bring up and validate prototype boards and firmware on the bench with oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, and debuggers
Integrate motors, actuators, encoders, and sensors into the machine and support commissioning of integrated hardware
Develop test fixtures and scripts, collect data, investigate electrical and firmware failures, and feed findings into the next design iteration
Collaborate with mechanical, controls, and software teams to integrate electronics and firmware into a coordinated robotic platform
Maintain clear engineering documentation, participate in design reviews, and contribute to Verustruct's electrical and firmware standards
Experience Target: Electrical Engineer I
Typically suited for candidates with approximately 0-2 years of relevant professional experience, including recent graduates with strong internship, research, competition-team, or project experience developing electrical or electromechanical hardware.
Candidates should be comfortable carrying well-defined boards, harnesses, and firmware features from requirements through design, build, and validation with guidance from senior engineers, while growing toward independent ownership of subsystems.
Experience in robotics, industrial automation, aerospace, automotive, heavy machinery, construction equipment, or similarly complex hardware systems is particularly relevant.
Participation in Baja SAE, Formula SAE, or a similar student engineering competition, particularly on electrical, controls, or powertrain systems is highly relevant.
Additional Details
Verustruct is committed to building a high-performing engineering team and compensating employees fairly as we advance from full-scale technical validation toward real-world deployment.
The expected total annual compensation range, including salary and equity, is:
Electrical Engineer I: $90,000–$115,000
Final compensation will depend on experience level, technical depth, leadership scope, and fit for the role. Our compensation package includes optionality for a meaningful equity portion designed to reward early employees for helping build Verustruct into a category-defining company.
What We're Looking For
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, mechatronics, or a closely related field
Strong understanding of electrical-engineering fundamentals, including circuit analysis, analog and digital electronics, power electronics, and basic control systems
Experience designing circuit boards in a professional, academic, internship, research, or project-based environment, ideally in KiCad or a comparable tool such as Altium Designer
Embedded programming experience in C or C++ on microcontrollers, including reading datasheets and reference manuals to configure peripherals
Hands-on experience building, testing, and troubleshooting electrical hardware with standard bench instruments
Familiarity with motor drivers, power regulation, sensors, wiring and harnessing practices, and communication interfaces such as CAN, UART, SPI, and I2C
Ability to communicate technical reasoning clearly and document engineering work effectively
A practical, curious, and iterative approach to solving open-ended hardware problems
Comfort working in a fast-moving startup environment where design, fabrication, and testing occur in tight development loops
Benefits include:
Health insurance: Silver PPO plan, 80% company-paid, with optional dental and vision coverage
Retirement: 401(k) plan with 4% employer match
Time off: Flexible PTO policy and observed federal holidays
Relocation support: Available for exceptional candidates relocating to the Los Angeles / Torrance area
Early-team ownership: Meaningful responsibility within a venture-backed construction robotics company progressing toward full-scale deployment
