Job Title: Manager Survelliance

The Global Banking and Markets (GB&M) Offshore Compliance team supports compliance officers across the GB&M businesses in carrying out key compliance monitoring, advisory and support activities. The team (Trade Surveillance, Unauthorised Trading & E- Communications Surveillance) will support onshore Compliance offices and the various businesses Globally. The purpose is to undertake surveillance in a timely manner thus ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and policies. The role will add additional structure and governance to this already controlled framework. The incumbent will be required to act as a point of central coordination globally. Having oversight for time critical and sensitive issues. Overall, the incumbent will provide guidance / supervision and accountability for the day-to-day offshore activities.

The incumbent will be given a degree of autonomy and will be expected to draw conclusions from their or their teams analysis and make appropriate recommendations to the Compliance Senior Management and GB&M business in order to rectify issues identified. The incumbent will be required to keep abreast of industry and regulatory changes.

In this role, you will:

• Recognise and identify potential new forms of staff or counterparty misconduct.
• Determine whether misconduct could be identified through the surveillance team’s current systems, processes, people, and the data sets surveilled.
• Collaborate and engage with the Product Management and Transformation Team, priorities the development of the systems, processes, people, and data sets needed to (better) identify these new forms of misconduct for their business/asset class.
• Opine and propose and track the development of these new surveillance capabilities.
• Consider and treat the alerts once they have already been passed through a first (level one) review.
• Ensure that all alerts are satisfactorily escalated and resolved.
• Conduct holistic review across the alerts to identify improvements the way in which alerts are generated to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the surveillance process.
• Carry out in investigations requested by Regulators, senior management and the businesses/asset classes into certain practices, businesses, individuals, and events. Escalate, as appropriate, any material findings or incidents of misconduct highlighted by these investigations.
• Coordinate or produce regular MI reports to key internal stakeholders including analysis of the MI.
• Engage with team members with the implementation and roll-out of a new surveillance tools and models.
• Analyse and explore multiple data types in order to identify anomalies and patterns of risk.
• Understand financial products and HSBC’s business processes around these.
• Collaborate across various technology platforms (surveillance, analytics, trading platforms, etc.).

To be successful you will:

• A strong understanding of the rules relevant to trading and sales activities for Equities, Options, Money Market, Foreign Exchange, and Fixed Income.
• Expert knowledge of financial markets and traded products.
• Demonstrable experience (3 or more years) working in a Surveillance role. Consideration will also be given to those with Compliance Advisory or Front-office experience.
• Ability to support decisions with sound reasoning. Ability to clearly articulate business and regulatory implications of analysis and findings.
• Strong analytical skills.  Experience in Visual Basic for Applications and macros is an asset.
• Evidence of collaboration with key stakeholder functions as well as providing credible challenge to the business/desk supervisors in their daily risk management.
• Well-developed communications, analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
• Ability to work unsupervised and efficiently priority.
