WHAT'S THE JOB?
The HSE Advisor, Signature Dining is a permanent, salaried position responsible for supporting health, safety, environment and food safety across multiple work sites.
Operating in hybrid capacity (approximately 80% field / 20% office), this role requires regular travel to various client and company locations to monitor program compliance, support site leadership, and drive continuous improvement in HSE performance.
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Health, Safety & Environment of Signature Dining, RHS West, ABS, and Workforce Structures, the HSE Advisor supports the Food Services across all Canadian operations. The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday and must be available to travel as required by business needs.
Field Operations & Site Support
Serve as a field-based representative, conducting regular site visits to support multiple locations across Canada.
Monitor and support the effective delivery of an integrated Occupational Health, Safety, Environment and Food Safety program for the Remote and Hospitality Services Division.
Ensure employees are empowered and supported to stop work in situations presenting an immediate threat to health, safety, or the environment.
Identify and assess hazards through food safety audits and assessments, field-level inspections, observations, and risk assessments. Recommend and support the implementation of appropriate controls, including critical controls.
Provide on-site and virtual training, as required. Training includes, but is not limited to, WHMIS, Food Safety Certification, Allergen Awareness, Orientation, Minor Spill Response, Bloodborne Pathogens, and Workplace Violence Prevention.
Support the team during formal external (e.g., COR, ISO) and internal audits. Conduct site visits to ensure locations have the necessary programs, documentation, and resources in place to meet audit and certification requirements.
Incident Management & Reporting
Lead, assist, and direct site-level incident and accident investigations; prepare timely and accurate investigation reports.
Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of corrective and preventative actions arising from incidents, audits, and inspections.
Evaluate and report on the effectiveness of risk management and HSE processes at the site and operational level.
Track performance and provide monthly reports to all levels of leadership, clearly identifying trends, deficiencies, gaps, and areas of risk. Include practical, actionable recommendations, assigned responsibilities, and target completion dates to support timely corrective action and continuous improvement.
Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
Support and motivate site leaders to take ownership of safety management systems and prioritize HSE in relation to other business objectives.
Collaborate with the Senior Manager of HSE to ensure consistent HSE and food safety practices are applied across all sites and operations.
Facilitate the communication of health, safety, environmental and food safety matters to employees, contractors, and clients, ensuring timely distribution of required information.
Support site leadership in communicating compliance requirements, distributing safety and food safety information, and ensuring all staff are informed of company safety policies and bulletins.
Maintain a high standard of internal and external customer service and contribute to the development of service excellence.
Program Management & Compliance
Apply technical knowledge, human factors, and risk assessment methods to research, review, and interpret hazard information, and identify causation, consequences, and appropriate controls.
Ensure HSE and Food Safety management systems are resourced, implemented, and maintained to prevent injuries, illnesses, property damage, and environmental impacts.
Measure field-level HSE & FS program performance to support achievement of business objectives and drive continuous improvement.
Monitor HSE & FS performance trends and recommend preventative measures to Operations and the Senior Manager of HSE.
Support and participate in contractor audits and field inspections as required.
Maintain awareness of evolving operational demands and demonstrate flexibility to meet business expectations.
Identify and support strategies to address risks in changing business environments.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
Required
Minimum 3 to 5 years of progressive experience in occupational health and safety and/or food safety, preferably in a field-based, multi-site, hospitality, food service, or remote-site environment.
Demonstrated experience applying food safety principles, conducting food safety inspections or audits, and supporting corrective actions in a commercial food service, hospitality, or institutional setting.
Must possess a valid Advanced Food Safety Certification and have practical experience applying food safety standards in the workplace.
Completion of post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, Business, Trades & Technology, or a related discipline; equivalent field experience will be considered.
Valid Canadian driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle required to operate.
Must be able to travel extensively throughout Canada, including frequent interprovincial travel.
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
Knowledge of occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations across Canadian jurisdictions (municipal, provincial, and federal).
Knowledge of provincial disability management protocols.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (intermediate to advanced level).
Preferred / Assets
Train-the-Trainer certification in Food Safety.
Occupational Health & Safety certification such as NCSO, CRSP, or HSA designation considered a strong asset.
Bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset; may be required for roles supporting Quebec-based operations.
