Job Summary
Provide high-quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations to support clinical diagnosis and patient care. Maintain accurate imaging records, ensure patient comfort and safety, and communicate findings to the healthcare team.

Main Duties
Perform a variety of diagnostic ultrasound examinations (e.g., abdominal, obstetric, vascular, musculoskeletal) using appropriate protocols and techniques.
Prepare patients for procedures, obtain relevant medical history, explain the examination, and address patient concerns to ensure comfort and safety.
Operate, adjust and maintain ultrasound equipment and transducers, selecting appropriate settings to optimize image quality.
Capture, review and document diagnostic images and measurements, ensuring images meet clinical standards and are properly stored in patient records.
Collaborate with physicians, radiologists and other healthcare professionals to communicate urgent findings and support diagnostic decision-making.
Adhere to infection control, radiation safety and quality assurance procedures; maintain equipment inventory and report maintenance needs.
Requirements
Completion of an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program or equivalent post-secondary training in medical ultrasound.
Certification from or eligibility for certification with a recognized sonography professional association or provincial regulatory body, where applicable.
Clinical experience performing diagnostic ultrasound examinations in a healthcare setting is preferred.
Strong knowledge of human anatomy, ultrasound physics, scanning protocols and image optimization techniques.
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including prolonged standing, patient positioning and assisting with patient transfers as needed.
Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Required Skills
Proficiency in ultrasound imaging techniques and transducer handling.
Patient assessment and compassionate patient care skills.
Equipment operation, basic troubleshooting and adherence to quality assurance procedures.
Image analysis, accurate measurement techniques and clinical documentation.
Clear communication and teamwork with physicians, nurses and other health professionals.
Time management, prioritization and ability to manage a variable caseload efficiently.
