The Certified Wound Ostomy Nurse manages patients with ostomy, wound, and complex skin needs in both inpatient and outpatient settings. They provide expert consultation, coordinate services, and educate patients, families, and the healthcare team.
Candidates must hold a BSN degree and a current RN license, along with a Wound, Ostomy Certification from the WOCNCB. At least one year of nursing experience in an acute care or clinical setting is required.

The Certified Wound Ostomy nurse (CWON) is responsible for managing patients in the inpatient and outpatient setting with ostomy, wound and/or complex skin management needs. Referrals come from providers, nurses and other health team members. The CWON assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the care of these patients relative to their wound, ostomy and complex skin needs. The CWON provides expert consultation to team members, coordination of services and education for patients, families and the health team. Service areas include both inpatient and outpatient settings.
