The Director is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive safety, risk management, and emergency preparedness programs. This includes conducting risk assessments, ensuring legal compliance, and coordinating with local emergency management agencies.
Candidates should ideally possess a Bachelor's degree in a related field and 2-4 years of progressively responsible experience. A Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar certification is required, and a Master's degree is preferred.

Experts in aging since 1975, AASC provides over 30 programs and services to help older adults and individuals with disabilities age in place. We are currently looking for the right applicant for a new, exciting role within the organization: Safety and Risk Management Director. The Safety and Risk Management Director is the designated safety representative for the agency and is responsible for developing/implementing the agency’s comprehensive safety, risk management and emergency preparedness programs.
Employees applying for this position will ideally have a Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management, Healthcare Administration, Public Administration, Business Administration or equivalent experience in a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred but not required. They will also have 2-4 years of progressively responsible experience and maintain a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar certification.
Typical daily tasks will include, but are not limited to:
AASC’s benefits package for this position includes hospitalization insurance availability, 403(b) retirement, 15 paid holidays and both sick and annual time accrual. This position supports all divisions of the agency and the programs provided by each division. Travel across the service area, including the city of Bristol and the counties of Buchanan, Dickenson, Russell, Tazewell, Bland, Wythe, Smyth and Washington, will be required. Occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs. and moderate physical activity may be required.
Although considered a director-level position, this job will perform direct-service duties and does not directly supervise staff.
AASC is one of Virginia’s 25 Area Agencies on Aging designated by the Virginia Department for the Aging to carry out the department’s mission to foster the dignity, independence and security of older Virginians by promoting partnerships with communities at the local level. AASC offers information and services for older adults residing in Buchanan, Dickenson, Russell, and Tazewell counties.
