Helvar develops intelligent lighting control solutions across software, IoT and building automation. We are actively developing our patent portfolio and monitoring the evolving competitive landscape.
As our current patent professional moves on to new challenges, you will have a unique opportunity to shape and further develop Helvar’s IPR operations.
Previous professional experience in patents or intellectual property, for example as a patent professional, patent engineer, patentattorneyor in-house IP specialist.
Strong understanding of patent law, patentprocessesand international patent filing practices.
Experience in evaluating inventions, managing patentportfoliosand conducting freedom-to-operate analyses.
Patent application drafting experience is considered an advantage.
Ability to understand complex technologies and translate them into clear, commercially relevant IPR recommendations.
Strong analytical, prioritisation and stakeholder-management skills.
Excellent written and spoken English.
Finnish and/or German language skills are considered a significant advantage.
A relevant master’s degree or higher in a technical or scientific discipline, such as engineering, computer science,physicsor a related field.

What we are looking for
You are a commercially minded patent professional who combines legal and technical expertise with a practical and collaborative approach. You are comfortable working independently, managing multiple priorities and communicating complex IPR topics clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
You are motivated by the opportunity to take ownership of a developing IPR function rather than stepping into a narrowly defined role. You enjoy building effective ways of working, influencing the direction of the function and determining how internal expertise and external support can best be combined.
Manage and developHelvar’sglobal patent portfolio in line with the company’s technology and business strategy.
Evaluate invention disclosures and prioritise inventions for patent protection.
Guide R&D and product teams on patentability, inventionidentificationand innovation capture.
Conduct and coordinate freedom-to-operate studies, patent landscapeanalysesand other IP-related investigations.
Manage patent filings, prosecution activities,renewalsand other portfolio-related processes.
Coordinate the work of external patent attorneys and other specialist advisers.
Draft or support the drafting of patent applications and responses to patent office actions.
Manage and develop the use of IP management software,databasesand related processes.
Monitor competitor patent activity, emergingtechnologiesand potential IP risks.
Provide IPR input for licensing, litigation,partnershipsand other strategic business decisions.
Promote IP awareness and good practices across the organisation.
Shape the future scope,prioritiesand operating model ofHelvar’sIPR function.
The exact scope of the role will depend partly on your experience and professional interests. As Helvar’s in-house IPR expert, you will have significant influence over which activities are managed internally and which are handled in collaboration with external patent attorneys and other specialist service providers.
