Full job description
At WHOOP, we're on a mission to unlock and inspire performance for life. WHOOP believes in the power of humans to transform how they feel, perform and age; we serve the aspiring!
WHOOP is seeking a Senior Manager, Field Quality to lead field quality across our Hardware and Accessories & Apparel (A&A) portfolio and oversee our Failure Analysis function and Quality Lab. Reporting to the Vice President of Hardware Quality, you will translate the broader quality strategy into scalable programs, operating mechanisms, and measurable outcomes that improve product quality and the member experience. You will connect field performance, member feedback, failure analysis, manufacturing and supplier data, and product insights to identify emerging risks, drive root cause and corrective action, and ensure learnings from the field influence future product and process decisions.
This is a highly cross-functional leadership role requiring both deep quality expertise and the ability to lead through others. You will build and develop a high-performing team, establish clear quality metrics and escalation mechanisms, and partner across Supplier Quality, NPI Quality, Hardware Engineering, Accessories and Apparel, Reliability Engineering, Supply Chain, Global Operations, Membership Services, and our manufacturing and supplier network to drive continuous improvement across the WHOOP product ecosystem.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead the field quality strategy and execution across Hardware and Accessories & Apparel, establishing KPIs, operating mechanisms, and cross-functional programs that identify emerging quality issues, prioritize risk, and drive measurable improvements in field performance and member experience.
Own the Failure Analysis function, Early Field Failure Analysis (EFFA) program, and Quality Lab, establishing scalable processes and technical capabilities to rapidly characterize failures, determine root cause, and translate findings into actionable design, manufacturing, supplier, and process improvements.
Build a closed-loop quality system connecting the field back to product development and manufacturing, synthesizing field returns, member feedback, reliability results, manufacturing trends, supplier performance, and failure analysis insights to identify systemic issues and influence upstream quality strategy and product decisions.
Lead cross-functional resolution of complex and high-impact quality issues, partnering with Analytics, Supplier Quality, NPI Quality, Hardware Engineering, Accessories and Apparel, Reliability Engineering, Supply Chain, Global Operations, Membership Services, contract manufacturers, and suppliers to establish containment, root cause, corrective and preventive actions, and verification of effectiveness.
Establish data-driven field quality management and executive visibility, defining metrics, escalation criteria, and review mechanisms in partnership with Analytics that enable teams and leadership to understand quality performance, make informed trade-offs, anticipate risk, and focus resources on the highest-impact opportunities.
Build, lead, and develop a high-performing Field Quality and Failure Analysis team, setting clear priorities and performance expectations, developing technical and leadership capability, and creating scalable systems that enable the organization to operate with increasing autonomy, speed, rigor, and accountability.
QUALIFICATIONS:
10+ years of experience in field quality, quality engineering, failure analysis, reliability, manufacturing quality, or a related discipline supporting consumer electronics, wearable technology, apparel/accessories, medical devices, or other complex consumer products.
Demonstrated experience leading teams and complex quality programs across multiple products or product categories, with the ability to translate broad quality objectives into clear priorities, operating mechanisms, and measurable outcomes.
Deep expertise in structured problem-solving and failure analysis methodologies, including root cause analysis, 5 Why, 8D, FMEA, DOE, Pareto analysis, CAPA, and related quality tools.
Experience building or leading failure analysis capabilities and laboratories, including the effective application of analytical techniques and equipment to characterize product failures and drive root cause determination.
Strong analytical acumen with experience using field performance, return, manufacturing, supplier, and customer/member data to identify trends, assess risk, prioritize investigations, and influence decisions.
Proven ability to lead complex cross-functional initiatives and influence technical and business stakeholders across Engineering, Product Development, Operations, Supply Chain, manufacturing partners, and suppliers in a fast-paced global environment.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
Strong commitment to embracing and leveraging AI tools in day-to-day tasks, ensuring AI-assisted work aligns with the same high-quality standards as personal contributions.
