Full job description
Job Summary
TDIndustries is seeking a highly technical Mechanical Engineer III or IV to support commercial construction projects during pre‑construction and construction phases. This role is ideal for an experienced consulting engineer or design build engineer who enjoys deep technical work, problem solving, and design excellence rather than formal people management. The engineer will serve as a subject‑matter expert across HVAC and plumbing systems, supporting a wide range of market sectors and project types.
Essential Duties
Design and analyze HVAC and plumbing systems for commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities from concept through construction.
Provide technical engineering support during design‑build and design‑assist projects, including constructability reviews and technical recommendations.
Perform advanced engineering calculations including heating and cooling loads, hydronics, plumbing fixture units, and energy analysis.
Serve as a technical authority on code compliance (local, state, and national codes).
Review architectural, structural, electrical, and civil drawings for impacts to mechanical systems and coordinate solutions.
Develop and review construction documents, shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and technical reports.
Conduct site surveys and jobsite visits to verify compliance with approved design documents and resolve field issues.
Support equipment selection and sizing in coordination with vendors and manufacturer representatives.
Assist with preconstruction efforts including schematic designs, quantity take‑offs, and conceptual estimating.
Troubleshoot system performance issues and develop alternative technical solutions as needed.
Provide informal technical guidance and mentoring to designers or EITs (no direct people‑management requirement).
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
Engineer III: Typically 7–10 years of mechanical engineering experience.
Engineer IV: Typically 10–15+ years of mechanical engineering experience.
Strong background working for a consulting or design build engineering firm with exposure to multiple market sectors.
Deep technical knowledge of HVAC and plumbing system design, duct and pipe sizing, and system layout.
Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting construction operations in a design‑build environment.
Limited emphasis on people management; mentoring is informal and technical in nature.
Level (III vs IV) will be determined based on depth of experience, technical expertise, and business need.
