Oklahoma City University invites applications for the nine month, non-tenure track position of Instructor, Assistant, or Associate Professor of Production beginning in August 2026.
Teaching, Scholarship, and Service Requirements
Teach entertainment production courses as assigned.
Handle co-curricular program activities as assigned. Examples include but are not limited to technical direction/production oversight/ and possibly design related to the Student Choreography Show, Star Dance Company shows, Community Dance Center Showcase, and Oklahoma City University Graduation Ceremonies.
Maintain theatrical equipment and venues used by the Ann Lacy School of American Dance and Entertainment as assigned.
Serve on arts management department and school committees as assigned.
Serve on university committees as assigned.
Actively demonstrate a continuing commitment to gaining new knowledge of entertainment management and production and remaining current in advances in the entertainment industry especially technical theater equipment and trends.
The successful candidate is expected to participate in the department's assessment program, advising activities, and in student recruiting and retention efforts for the department and the university.
Qualifications
One or more of the following
MFA in technical theatre or stage management related fields
MBA and extensive professional entertainment technology, touring, and/or stage management experience
Bachelor’s degree (stage management/ arts management, performing arts, or entertainment related preferred) and extensive professional experience
Knowledge of the technical aspects of production, such as technical direction, lighting, sound, set design, union rules, contracts, etc. Ability to manage productions.
Teaching experience. University teaching experience preferred.
Must be qualified to teach courses in the following: Arts Management and Production Levels 1, 2, and 3.
Qualifications for teaching Stage Management and Production (basic) is preferred but not required.
Qualifications for any of the following courses are a plus: Touring for the Performing Arts, Contracts for Performers; Venue Management; Event Management; Non-Profit Management; Development and Fundraising, and Producing.
Commitment to developing and nurturing a program aimed at the student who wants to work in the musical theatre/entertainment industry in a variety of capacities.
Appreciation of American theatrical dance.
Theatrical design/lighting design experience is a plus.
Event and venue management experience is a plus.
Theatrical touring experience is a plus.
Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite programs including Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Knowledge or ability to learn software related to lighting and sound design.
Ability to follow policies and procedures of the Ann Lacy School of American Dance and Entertainment. It is important for faculty to understand and be committed to the vision of the school. Many courses are team or collaboratively taught. Collegiality, professional conduct, and teamwork are required of all faculty.
Ability to perform sustained physical activity including lifting and carrying equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to bend, stoop, climb, and reach. Work in the theatre includes working at heights and in lighting attic spaces.
Ability to work in studios, lecture in classrooms, and perform activities in theater facilities. Work in the theatre requires ability to move quickly from audience to stage areas that are at different levels. There is long exposure to theater and studio sound equipment volume levels.
Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and by theatrical headset systems.
Near vision sufficient to read written communications, and computer display screens. Night vision sufficient for safely moving in low-light theatrical environments.
Ability to work in an outdoor environment when traveling between campus buildings or off campus especially during show productions that require loading theatrical equipment in and out of performance spaces.
Ability to work varied hours from early morning to evenings and weekend hours in class, rehearsals and rehearsal/production activity monitoring.
Ability and willingness to travel locally, nationally, and internationally when assigned to activities involving road or air travel.
Ability to drive vans and/or trucks for show productions; valid driver’s license and solid driving record.
Ann Lacy School of American Dance and Entertainment The Ann Lacy School of American Dance and Entertainment specializes in preparing arts/entertainment managers and dancers for the American entertainment industry through its B.S. in Entertainment Business, B.S. in Dance Management, B. S. in American Dance Pedagogy, and B.F.A. in Dance Performance degree programs. The school consists of the Arts Management Department and the Dance Department. The Entertainment Business degree is designed to allow students to focus on customizable tracks in Event Planning, Entertainment Pre-Law, Talent Management, and Entertainment Enterprise (touring, sports management, venue management, church arts programs, film, entrepreneurship, etc.) The Ann Lacy School is widely recognized for being a top school for preparing dancers, managers, and teachers for the entertainment industry.
