Company Description
Make strategy real — with economics, data and impact.
We are seeking a Manager or Associate Director to join our Strategy practice in Auckland, operating at the intersection of economics, analytics, technology, and real‑world decision‑making.
In this role, you will shape high‑impact economic and strategic advice that directly informs critical client decisions, often at Board and C‑suite level, across a diverse and complex portfolio. You will work in a fast‑paced consulting environment, leading multiple engagements simultaneously while maintaining exceptional quality. As a senior member of the team, you will be highly client‑facing, hands‑on with advanced modelling and data analysis, and responsible for guiding and developing junior team members, contributing to both delivery excellence and the growth of the practice.
Job Description
About the role
You will work on highprofile strategy engagements across public and private sectors, helping clients make better choices about growth, investment, policy, regulation and transformation. Projects span areas such as infrastructure, competition, regulation, workforce, climate and public policy, with a strong emphasis on economic frameworks, quantitative modelling, and evidence-based insight.
You will be embedded in a highly collaborative team, working closely with specialists locally and globally. A key part of the role is being part of Deloitte Access Economics, locally and across Australia.
What you’ll do
Your role will combine technical depth, leadership and client impact, including:
Applying economic reasoning, structured frameworks and strategic thinking to solve complex client problems
Leading and delivering advanced modelling and data analysis, including economic modelling, forecasting, scenario analysis and datadriven insights
Using modern analytics tools and emerging AI techniques to enhance insight, efficiency and impact
Translating complex analysis into clear, compelling narratives for clients
Owning client relationships day-to-day, including presenting findings, facilitating discussions and advising on next steps
Managing multiple workstreams in parallel in a dynamic, time sensitive environment
Leading, coaching and developing junior team members, setting high standards and supporting their growth
Working collaboratively across teams, disciplines and geographies
Qualifications
What we’re looking for
We’re seeking someone who combines strong technical capability with consulting judgment and leadership presence.
You will bring:
Deep experience in economic modelling and data analysis (essential). This role is hands-on and technical, and you need the experience to lead juniors in the team
A postgraduate qualification in economics, statistics, data science or a related discipline
Experience applying economic and analytical frameworks to realw-orld strategy or policy questions
Proven ability to work with tools such as R, Python, Stata, EViews or similar, with a curiosity for AI‑enabled approaches
Experience enabling and mentoring junior consultants
Comfort working directly with clients, including presenting complex ideas clearly and persuasively
The ability to manage multiple priorities, stay organised under pressure, and deliver high-quality work at pace
A collaborative mindset. You enjoy working in teams and believe better outcomes come from working together
Experience in a consulting or advisory environment, and familiarity with the New Zealand economic context, will be highly regarded.
