Job Title: Manager, Credit Risk

• Role must undertake Balanced Risk Decisions and Recommendations for Asia WCRM to ensure that WCRM: -
• Contribute towards building sound quality asset portfolio, quality business
• Participate in the maintenance of a stable lending portfolio within Group and Asia WCRM policy objectives.
• Maintain appropriate credit standards in the approval and control of lending.

In this role, you will:

Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities (e.g., for Business, Customers and Stakeholders; internal control environment, etc.)

• Responsible to deliver timely and well-balanced risk approvals / recommendations in Asia WCRM CIB/GB (including MNC) / FIG portfolio within in agreed Service Level Agreement. Analyse the counterparties in the Financial Institutions Group (FIG) Segment of Group FIG Approvals team.
• Prepare financial analysis for internal rating and establishing credit limits for financial institutions, sovereigns and countries both at parent and subsidiary levels.
• Foster and encourage a sound common credit culture and to avoid undue risk concentrations, with the aim of ensuring a sustainable high quality lending portfolio. Understand and monitor risk profile and able to timely escalate to management. Enhancing quality by providing concise / clear / pertinent decision and recommendations.
• In carrying out these duties, the jobholder must be fully aware of the need to meet customer requirements and the overall effect of the marketplace on the credit process.
• To ensure regular up-scaling of own knowledge and capabilities.
• Responsible to provide guidance and directions to the coverage Regions & Centres to ensure credit standards issued by internal Credit policies & guidance must be always followed.
• Must also be prepared to stand firm despite heavy pressure to change opinion, albeit must not be totally inflexible. Strive towards a balanced risk-based approach not exposing the HSBC Group to unnecessary risk. 
• Responsible to ensure appropriate balance is achieved between developing the quality business, maintaining a well-balanced book as to risk, ensuring credit standards are observed and at the same time being fully responsive to the needs of customers and the marketplace.
• The job holder may be granted a Credit Approval Authority and must ensure understanding of all relevant limitations and policies, and Approval Authority Matrix & the guidance notes regarding the use of these, prior to exercising this authority.
• Understand and adhere to both the letter and the spirit of all laws, regulations and regulatory guidance that apply to an individual's role, promptly reporting any breaches in accordance with local procedures.
• To ensure all regulatory requirements are enacted as ‘business as usual”.
• To contribute to the profitability of the HSBC Group and minimize loan losses.
• The post requires determination/discipline/diplomacy skills to persuade network colleagues of the jobholder’s views. 
• Must be able to work independently on credit proposals and capable of providing appropriate solution and recommendations.

• Should have the capability & flexibility to switch roles within Wholesale Credit Risk Management in various functions & geographies at short notice if needed.
• Flexibility to travel, if required.

• Assist the line manager in ensuring uninterrupted business operations and delivering flagship projects.

• To maintain HSBC internal control standards, including the timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.

To be successful you will:

Functional Knowledge

• Academics – University degree in commerce/ economics/ management/ engineering. Preference will be given to the candidates holding MBA-Finance or equivalent/ CA/ ICWA/ CS/ CAIIB/ CFA etc.
• Experience – 5+ years of relevant experience in Asia WCRM CIB / GB / FIG Credit in a reputed Bank.
• Strong understanding of financial statement analysis and credit lending products.
• Thorough understanding of Group Lending Guidelines, as well as various corporate banking and treasury products, familiarity with other specialised lending areas and latest financing structures in the market.
• Strong analytical and technical skills, with the ability to understand, interpret and consolidate diverse and intricate business information, identify, and mitigate risk issues, and arrive at meaningful conclusions.
• Eye for conducting detailed diligence given the complexities involved, and at the same time be change-oriented given the evolving market and nature of the transactions.
