Your Team Responsibilities
The Climate Data and Content team is responsible for research and assessment of carbon footprint and business initiatives related to climate change for approximately 14,000 companies globally. Team's research is focused on climate-related metrics including carbon emissions, energy performance, climate change targets and commitments, and other relevant sector-specific data, using a variety of sources such as annual reports, sustainability reports, news publications, and other company disclosures.
You will operate at the intersection of sustainability & climate expertise, data operations, and MSCI's firmwide AI and automation transformation — helping evolve manual, document-heavy workflows into intelligent, auditable, and scalable data processes.
Your Key Responsibilities
Data Research & Assessment
Procure and process information on globally listed companies using multiple sources including AR’s, CSR’s, websites, and web crawlers
Capture and transform climate data metrics — including carbon emissions, energy performance, climate targets, and sector-specific KPIs — into meaningful information, ratings, and scores
Contribute to sector expertise and support all climate data integration efforts
Update and refine industry assessment guides for data collectors and internal analysts
Quality Assurance & Data Integrity
Review and validate climate data provided by vendors and issuers within your sector coverage
Design and implement process improvements and QA checks to ensure consistent data quality and efficiency
Reconcile data challenges and address queries from internal and external users pertaining to climate data
Leverage automation and rule-based checks to reduce manual errors and improve throughput
AI & Automation in Operations
Apply approved AI tools and automation frameworks to support automated QC, anomaly detection, intelligent triage of high-risk or complex cases, and workflow optimisation
Validate AI outputs, understand their limitations, and ensure human-in-the-loop decision making
Use AI-supported tools to summarise, compare, and triage documentation while retaining analyst judgment and accountability
Contribute to the responsible adoption of AI-assisted tools that improve speed, accuracy, and scale
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
Engage with internal and external stakeholders for better understanding of methodology and data
Address queries from internal and external users, train users on methodologies and processes, and maintain process documentation
Work with a global team of researchers, data specialists, IT teams, and vendors to enhance assessment of companies' carbon footprint, climate targets, and climate change mitigation practices
Process Improvement
Identify opportunities to simplify, standardise, and automate repetitive tasks
Drive coverage and content expansion projects defined by the business
Contribute to working committees, projects, or perform other tasks as deemed necessary by the business
Your skills and experience that will help you excel
Experience
Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Statistics, Sustainability, Environmental Science, Oil & Gas Engineering, or Power Management
Experience: 1-3 years of working experience in Energy (Oil & Gas), Power, Industrials, or Transport sectors and/or a background in GHG assessments, GRI reporting, or environmental impact assessments
Domain Knowledge: Strong understanding of climate change issues and regulations, including carbon offsets and climate reporting standards (e.g. TCFD, ISSB) and frameworks (e.g. IPCC, UNFCCC)
