You will execute the end-to-end Model Risk Management Framework, ensuring models are consistently identified, classified, and monitored against risk appetite. Candidates must hold a Master's degree in a quantitative discipline and possess at least 3 years of experience in model or quantitative risk management. Strong analytical skills, knowledge of banking risk practices, and the ability to communicate complex findings to senior management are essential.

We are looking for a hands-on, analytically driven Model Risk Specialist to join our Model Risk Portfolio Management & Frameworks team. You combine deep quantitative expertise with a strategic mindset and are energised by translating complex risk frameworks into scalable, data-driven solutions that create measurable impact across the organisation.
The team
The Model Risk Management department exists to ensure that model output leads to the right decisions and that models add business value safely. Our ambition is to establish one global framework that works in practice, with clear roles and ownership across all lines of defence and locations, governance operationalised through our Model Risk Management platform, and portfolio-level reporting that provides senior management with decision-ready risk information.
The team is driving the transition from reactive, model-by-model risk management to active portfolio steering, where prioritisation, remediation, and decommissioning decisions are driven by agreed risk metrics and forward-looking indicators. We aim to deliver reporting that not only describes risk but clearly signals when escalation or intervention is required.
Roles and responsibilities
In this role, you will play a key role in shaping and executing ING’s model risk management ambitions.
Execute the Model Risk Management Framework end-to-end, ensuring models across all domains and locations are consistently identified, classified, monitored, and assessed against a clearly defined Risk Appetite.
Develop and leverage data-driven capabilities to identify risk concentrations, dependencies, and emerging patterns across the model portfolio, translating analytical insights into proactive, forward-looking risk assessments and concrete management actions.
Own the shift to portfolio-level risk management by driving structured portfolio reviews, forward-looking risk indicators, and prioritisation decisions based on agreed metrics.
Turn governance into practice by shaping and delivering the next generation of Model Risk tooling, defining platform requirements, and translating them into clear specifications for technology teams.
Serve as the primary advisor on the MoRM Framework, ensuring alignment with ING governance, internal risk frameworks, and regulatory developments, including the EU AI Act.
Drive accountability by influencing and challenging senior stakeholders to take ownership of model risk in the first line and leading framework changes and cross-organisational initiatives where needed.

Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a quantitative discipline with 3+ years of experience in model risk, quantitative risk management, or a closely related field.
Deep understanding of modelling techniques and their practical application across Credit Risk domain.
Strong analytical skills with a proven ability to identify patterns, connect dependencies, and translate findings into meaningful risk assessments and recommendations.
Solid knowledge of banking risk management practices, products, and the regulatory landscape governing model use.
Ability to confidently influence and challenge senior stakeholders, driving ownership and meaningful behavioural change.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain analytical findings to technical audiences and articulate risk implications to senior management.
Strategic mindset with the ability to translate long-term vision into clear priorities and measurable outcomes.
