This role is part of the Office of Statistics and Information (OSI) branch within the department of Treasury Board and Finance (TBF). OSI plays a key role in planning, consolidating, developing, and promoting Alberta’s demographic, economic, and social statistics to support evidence-based decision-making across government.
You will be part of the Workforce Reporting and Analytics (WRA) team, which partners with client ministries, including Human Resources (HR) and Finance, to deliver reporting and analytics services. The team works closely with stakeholders to transform data into meaningful insights that support workforce planning and organizational decision-making across the Alberta Public Service (APS).
Role Responsibilities
Are you passionate about working with stakeholders to translate business needs into meaningful, actionable insights? We are looking for a Business Analyst/Business Intelligence Consultant who excels in communication, facilitation, and delivering client-focused solutions.
In this role, you will act as a strategic advisor and trusted partner, working closely with business stakeholders to understand challenges and identify how data can support informed decision-making. You will play a key role in bridging the gap between business and technical teams, ensuring requirements are clearly defined, effectively communicated, and translated into practical reporting solutions.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys consulting, stakeholder engagement, and presenting insights, with a strong interest in using data visualization to tell clear and compelling stories. Understanding government structures, policies and procedures, as well as a working level knowledge of HR directives, policies, legislation, and workforce data will also be beneficial to you in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead stakeholder consultations to gather, analyze, and document business requirements.
Facilitate discussions and workshops to clarify business needs, priorities, and reporting objectives.
Act as a liaison between business and technical teams, ensuring shared understanding of requirements and outcomes.
Design and develop clear, intuitive dashboards and visualizations that support decision-making.
Translate complex data into accessible, user-friendly insights for non-technical audiences.
Provide recommendations and options analysis to support business planning and decision-making.
Deliver presentations and communicate insights to senior leadership and executive audiences.
Support project activities including planning, user acceptance testing (UAT), and implementation.
Manage multiple initiatives in a fast-paced, evolving environment
Note: This role focuses primarily on consultation, business analysis, and front-end dashboard visualization, with collaboration alongside technical experts who support the back-end data development.
