JOB SUMMARY
The Compliance, Maintenance & Operational Planning unit is responsible for environmental compliance and construction/maintenance at the City’s solid waste facilities, and operational planning for solid waste collections. You provide technical and project support to the Solid Waste Compliance Branch through the investigation and resolution of technical problems by collecting, analyzing, compiling and interpreting field and survey data, producing technical and operational data and related reports for use in compliance reporting to assist in maintaining compliance with Ministry of the Environment, Conservation, and Parks (MECP) guidelines. You also support construction projects and assist with landfill sequence planning, compaction assessment, and other landfill related metrics.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of 3 year community college diploma in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical or Environmental Technology
Minimum of 3 years of experience in the Solid Waste field including hydrogeology, computer modelling, mechanical processing of waste and heavy equipment uses
One year of supervisory experience
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES
Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) with OACETT
Must obtain Standard First Aid, CPR and/or AED certificates within the time frame determined by the employer
Must complete all required on-the-job training/certifications (e.g. WHMIS, fall arrest, confined space entry, etc.) within the timeframe determined by the employer.
KNOWLEDGE
Principles of Solid Waste facilities and associated legislation
Computer applications for database management such as Lotus 123 or D Base
Maintenance management systems and scheduling
Confined space legislation
Must possess the training, experience and knowledge to organize the work and its performance
Must be familiar with all applicable health and safety legislation, have knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the work place, and have knowledge of appropriate actions to be taken in order to ensure the health and safety of staff in accordance with applicable legislation and city policies and procedures

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing
A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated. This position requires the successful candidate to use their own transportation.
