Provide basic breastfeeding information, encouragement, and one-on-one counseling to WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. Responsibilities include promoting breastfeeding, correcting misinformation, and assisting with breast pump issuance and inventory.
Candidates must have received WIC services and successfully breastfed at least one baby, with six months of experience preferred. Must possess good communication skills, reliable transportation, and a desire to help other mothers.

Salary: up to $17.81/hour, based on education and experience
Full Time /Part Time: Part-time
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday
Primary Hours: between the hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, up to 20 hours per week.
A WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor is a paraprofessional support counselor who gives basic breastfeeding information and encouragement to WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.

Education and Experience requirements consist of a high school diploma or equivalent. Breastfeeding Peer Counselors are a special group of women who are able to model good parenting skills, as well as breastfeeding skills. Their responsibilities will include being positive role models and positive representatives of WIC and the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor program. When recruiting Breastfeeding Peer Counselors, local agencies shall choose mothers who meet all of the following criteria:
Recommended Training:
It is recommended that Breastfeeding Peer Counselors attend the OSDH WIC Service WIC Breastfeeding Symposium.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Work is typically performed in an office setting with climate-controlled settings and exposure to moderate noise levels. While performing the duties of the job, employees are required to talk, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. This position requires long periods of sitting and daily use of computers and phones. Employees must be willing to complete all job-related travel associated with this position.
