Responsibilities

Own end-to-end product design for a dedicated area, collaborating with Product Managers and Engineers to translate insights into intuitive experiences. Lead the integration of AI capabilities into customer workflows while mentoring junior designers and evolving the design system.

Requirements

Requires 5-8+ years of experience in digital product design for web and mobile with expertise in Figma and user research. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to lead product areas independently and have a strong bias toward action in fast-paced environments.

Full job description

Join PetScreening as a Senior Product Designer

At PetScreening, Product Designers are strategic partners who help shape products from idea to implementation. As a Senior Product Designer, you'll serve as the primary design owner for a product area—end to end, from strategy through delivery—influencing product direction and delivering thoughtful, user-centered experiences that create meaningful value for our customers and business.

You’ll collaborate closely with Product Managers, Engineers, and business stakeholders to uncover opportunities, validate ideas, and bring innovative solutions to market. This role requires a designer who thrives in ambiguity, embraces continuous learning, and is comfortable leading through influence.

As AI continues to transform both the way products are built and the way design teams operate, we’re looking for someone who sees AI as a force multiplier—using it to improve their own craft while thoughtfully designing AI-powered experiences that are intuitive, trustworthy, and human-centered.

Who we're looking for

You’re a systems thinker who can fluidly navigate between big-picture strategy and hands-on design execution. You bring a strong product sense, advocate for the user, and collaborate proactively with partners across the business. You know how to balance user needs, business priorities, and technical constraints—and you elevate the quality of outcomes across the board. You're comfortable being the single design owner of a product area—setting direction, making tradeoffs, and being accountable for outcomes without needing to be told what's next.

You’ve led successful product initiatives, driven design improvements, and mentored others into better, bolder design work.

As a member of our team you will…

  • Own end-to-end product design for a dedicated product area, acting as the primary design point of contact for that space—not just executing projects within it.
  • Partner with Product Management as a true co-owner of your product area's roadmap and success metrics, accountable for outcomes, not just delivery.
  • Translate customer insights, business objectives, and technical constraints into elegant, intuitive experiences.
  • Conduct user research, synthesize findings, and validate design decisions through testing and iteration.
  • Create wireframes, user flows, prototypes, and polished interface designs using our design system.
  • Present work confidently and facilitate collaborative design discussions with stakeholders across Product, Engineering, and Leadership.
  • Contribute to and evolve our design system, interaction patterns, and UX standards.
  • Mentor less experienced designers through critique, collaboration, and example.
  • Continuously improve team processes, design quality, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Stay current on emerging technologies, design trends, and evolving AI capabilities that can improve both our products and our practice.

We’re building a modern design practice

We believe AI is becoming an essential part of every Product Designer’s toolkit—not replacing human creativity, but amplifying it. Successful designers at PetScreening use AI to increase the quality, speed, and depth of their work while remaining thoughtful, critical, and deeply customer-focused.

In this role, you’ll be expected to…

Work smarter with AI

  • Leverage AI tools to accelerate research, synthesis, ideation, content creation, documentation, and prototyping.
  • Continuously experiment with emerging AI workflows that improve efficiency without sacrificing design quality.
  • Critically evaluate AI-generated outputs, applying human judgment rather than accepting recommendations at face value.
  • Share effective AI workflows with teammates, contributing to a design org that keeps getting sharper.

Build smarter solutions with AI

  • Design experiences that responsibly incorporate AI capabilities into customer workflows.
  • Consider transparency, trust, explainability, privacy, and human oversight when designing AI-assisted interactions.
  • Understand when automation creates value—and when human intervention creates a better customer experience.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, and Data to identify where AI can meaningfully improve the product, not just where it's technically possible.

An ideal candidate we seek…

  • 5–8+ years of experience designing digital products for web and mobile platforms.
  • Experience owning a product area or portfolio as the primary design point of contact—accountable for its outcomes over time, not just individual project delivery.
  • Strong interaction design, UX, visual design, and information architecture skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to simplify complex workflows into intuitive user experiences.
  • Experience partnering closely with Product Managers and Engineers throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Strong communication, storytelling, and presentation skills.
  • Expertise in Figma and modern design tooling.
  • Experience conducting user research and translating findings into product decisions.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and independently drive clarity across complex problem spaces.
  • Bias to action. Self-directed and comfortable driving work forward in fast-paced, evolving environments.
  • A collaborative mindset, generous with feedback, and genuinely motivated by the success of the team.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience designing AI-powered or machine learning-enabled products.
  • Familiarity with conversational interfaces, intelligent automation, recommendation systems, or generative AI experiences.
  • Experience leveraging AI-powered tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, Perplexity, Copilot, or similar platforms to improve product design workflows.
  • Experience contributing to mature design systems.
  • Experience working within Agile product organizations.

What success looks like

  • Think beyond screens to solve meaningful problems for our varied audiences.
  • Bring clarity and momentum to ambiguous product spaces.
  • Balance customer needs, business objectives, and technical realities.
  • Influence product strategy through strong thinking and collaboration.
  • Operate as the accountable owner of your product area's design outcomes—not just what ships, but how it performs.
  • Elevate the quality of the team’s design practice through mentorship and thoughtful feedback.
  • Continuously expand their knowledge of our business, customers, and industry.
  • Embrace AI as a core part of both their design practice and the products they help create.

Location

This hybrid role is based in our Mooresville, NC office, and offers a flexible in-office policy.

Why PetScreening?

  • Communicate effectively and collaborate across distributed, remote teams spanning Product, Engineering, and Design, including regular participation in video meetings and asynchronous written communication.
  • Exercise independent judgment and technical decision-making with minimal oversight, consistent with a senior individual-contributor/leadership hybrid role.
  • Travel to Charlotte, NC or other US locations a minimum of 3–6 times per year for in-person collaboration, training, and team development or as needed (as noted above).
