The FAS plays a key role in customer success by bridging pre-sales and post-sales activities across our clinical and research instrument portfolios. Additionally, the FAS contributes to product adoption by understanding their customer’s workflows and recommending Miltenyi solutions when appropriate. The FAS manages a diverse customer base within an assigned territory, collaborating closely with Sales, Technical Support, Product Management, and Service to ensure a seamless and high-quality customer experience. The role requires the ability to work effectively in a matrix organization with multiple teams supporting the same territory, while balancing independent responsibility and proactive problem-solving.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Pre-sales support
Collaborate with sales team members (e.g., Technical Sales Representatives, Clinical Applications Managers, Spatial Biology Specialists) to understand customer requirements and design appropriate technical solutions.
Perform onsite and virtual product demonstrations for instruments and applications, including seminars, workshops, and “lunch and learn” sessions.
Provide technical presentations to support evaluation, selection, and adoption of Miltenyi instruments, reagents, and consumables.
Contribute to the sales process by identifying applications that fit customer workflows and recommending appropriate Miltenyi products and configurations.
Post-sales implementation and training
Act as the primary field technical support for assigned instrument portfolios, providing onsite installation support and initial end-user training.
Conduct retraining and advanced applications training to ensure optimal use of CliniMACS instruments, MACSQuant instruments, Imaging instruments, and related systems in customer workflows.
Develop and deliver application-specific training content and workshops tailored to clinical and/or research needs.
Ongoing applications support and troubleshooting
Provide timely responses to customer technical inquiries, troubleshooting issues remotely and onsite, in collaboration with Technical Support, Field Service Engineers, and other internal teams.
Support resolution of complex technical problems, including coordination of clinical complaints and communication of corrective actions when needed.
Distribute and explain software release notes, advising customers on upgrade feasibility, potential impact on workflows, and any required corrective actions.
Customer success and commercial collaboration
Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with customers, acting as a trusted technical advisor and resource for cellular therapy, flow cytometry, imaging, and related applications.
Work collaboratively in shared accounts to support the sale of reagents, kits, antibodies, and other consumables through joint workdays and coordinated account planning with local sales specialists.
Identify opportunities for upselling and cross-selling additional instruments, software, and consumables based on customer needs, utilization patterns, and emerging applications.
Gather and communicate customer feedback on product performance, usability, and emerging requirements to internal stakeholders for continuous improvement.
Territory management and documentation
Plan and manage time and territory coverage to ensure appropriate support for new installations, existing customers, and sales opportunities.
Work closely with the Technical Support team to provide in-field customer follow-up after a support request or complaint filing as needed.
Partner with marketing, product management, and other internal teams to support regional events, workshops, and product launches as needed.
Identify potential sales leads across portfolios and facilitate hand-off to the appropriate colleague.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or technical field (Biology, Immunology, Biomedical Engineering or related discipline) is required.
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in biological sciences, cellular therapy, flow cytometry, microscopy/spatial biology, or related field.
Hands-on experience with one or more of the following domains is required: cellular therapy/cell and gene therapy, flow cytometry, or microscopy/spatial biology.
Customer-facing experience in field applications, technical support, or comparable roles is strongly preferred.
Experience in clinical or regulated environments is a plus where applicable.
Demonstrated proficiency in laboratory instrumentation, data analysis, and workflow optimization within life science applications.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong knowledge of cellular therapy and related technologies, and familiarity with immunology, molecular biology, flow cytometry, and/or microscopy/spatial biology applications.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships and to act as a trusted advisor.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically about customer needs, territory priorities, and business objectives.
Proven ability to work independently in the field while collaborating effectively with cross-functional internal teams.
Other Requirements
Willingness and ability to travel extensively within the assigned territory (up to 70%, depending on business needs).
