Overview
The Department of Biological Sciences at Auburn University is looking for a Lab Technician to assist in the routine day-to-day operations of a preparation/support laboratory for microbiology teaching labs.
Responsibilities
Preparation of common reagents/media following general laboratory procedures.
Inventory control and ordering of lab supplies.
Maintenance and handling of viable cultures.
Preparing complex media with limited direction.
Interfacing with outside vendors and service providers.
General up-keep of instrumentation and equipment to ensure safe operations.
Assist with laboratory instruction and supervision.
Assist with design of experiments.
Assist with writing laboratory procedures.
Provide an effective level of support to the teaching mission of the laboratory.
Qualifications
Level II:
High School Diploma or equivalent and 1 year of experience in performing tests and/or research in a lab setting.
Level III:
High School Diploma or equivalent and 4 years of experience in performing tests and/or research in a lab setting.
SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED FOR EXPERIENCE: Yes, When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
Desired Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or master's degree from an accredited institution in microbiology or closely related science field.
Experience in research, lab media preparation for various types of microorganisms, bacterial culture maintenance, use of Ph meter, autoclave, and other laboratory equipment.
