The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for filling and delivering medications, managing IV admixtures, and maintaining controlled substance records. They also perform routine inspections and update patient medication cassettes under the direction of a pharmacist.
Requires a high school diploma and national certification from PTCB or NHA. Preference is given to candidates with at least six months of hospital pharmacy experience.
SCHEDULE:
This is an overnight position.
Required to work 10-hour shifts, 8 days on and 6 days off.
The Certified Pharmacy Technician, under the direction of a pharmacist, delivers medications, performs unit dose activities, including filling patient medication orders and cassettes, admission discharge transfer updates, floor stock orders, outpatient prescriptions, performs routine medication area inspections, maintains records for controlled substances, and utilizes the pharmacy computer system. Assumes IV/Admixture responsibilities including labeling pre-mixed solutions, restocking and ordering solutions and supplies, preparing large and small volume parenterals, parenteral nutrition solutions, irrigations, anti-neoplastic solutions and extemporaneous compounds. Performs administratively assigned duties.PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Walking and standing for up to eight hours per day and up to three consecutive hours. Continuously fingering. Frequent handling, grasping and twisting. Frequently lifting and carrying up to 35 pounds. Frequent, continuous stair climbing and decent while carrying up to 35 pounds. Periodically, extended walking. Occasionally pushing and pulling up to 200 pounds. Frequently stooping and bending. Repetitively looking up. Occasionally crouching. Continuously reaching above shoulder level. Frequent neck bending. Hearing as it relates to normal conversation, high and low frequency. Seeing as it relates to general vision, near vision, far vision, color vision and peripheral vision.
High school graduate, with courses in math and science.
NJ Candidate: Registration with the NJ Board of Pharmacy is preferred upon hire. New Hires must submit a registration application with the NJ Board of Pharmacy within 10 days of hire date and the Certified Pharmacy Technician must be Registered with the NJ State Board of Pharmacy within 180 days of hire date
Minimum of six months previous hospital pharmacy experience preferred. Requires successful completion of on-the-job training in each area of the department within the first six months of employment.
Current PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) or NHA (National Healthcareer Association) national certification required.
