Responsible for managing laboratory facilities to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases through the study of tissues at a microscopic level. Duties include preparing and staining tissue samples and overseeing daily operations and lower-level staff.
Requires clinical education from a NAACLS accredited Histology Technician program and at least one year of experience in a histology laboratory. ASCP or an equivalent certification is mandatory.
Individual contributors with responsibility in a clinical discipline or specialty. Typically involves diagnosing, treating, and caring for patients, and often include face-to-face interactions with patients. May also spend some time designing and implementing clinical programs, policies, and services using specialized knowledge and skills. Specialty license or certification required which is acquired through advanced education, training and/or experience. This career stream will be most commonly applied to patient care and/or scientific/laboratory technologist jobs.
Requires advanced knowledge of operational procedures and tools through extensive work experience and require vocational or technical education. Works under limited supervision for non-routine situations and may be responsible for leading daily operations. Trains, delegates and reviews the work of lower-level employees. Problems typically are typically difficult and non-routine but not complex.
Education: Clinical education in a Histology Technician School (HT) program accredited by NAACLS or the minimum required for HTL(ASCP)
Experience: 1 year experience in a Histology Laboratory.
Licensure: ASCP or equivalent certification required.
Job requires sitting/standing for prolonged periods and frequently bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 – 100lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, radiation, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
