The Mental Health Associate provides personal and emotional care for adult and geriatric psychiatric patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Responsibilities include implementing safety measures, performing prescribed patient care activities, and maintaining accurate documentation.
Candidates must have a healthcare provider certification from the American Heart Association and complete Dr. Armstrong training. A high school diploma and two years of experience or a CADC certification are preferred.

The Mental Health Assistant performs a variety of patient care activities and related non-professional services necessary in caring for the personal and emotional needs of adult and/or geriatric patients while under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Demonstrates understanding of comfort/safety measures required of population served.
2. Attends ongoing/continuing education programs as appropriate to maintain knowledge base.
3. Performs patient care activities as prescribed by the registered nurse based on established protocols.
4. Adheres to standards of care appropriate to patients assigned and consistent with job skills.
5. Utilizes the correct format for all documentation.
II. Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. Certification or equivalent experience required.
2. Receives on the job training under close supervision.
3. American Heart Association certification for health care provider required upon hire or during orientation and every two years thereafter.
4. Dr. Armstrong training required during orientation and every year thereafter.
Preferred:
1. High school graduate or equivalent
Experience/Skills:

1. 2 years experience and/or CADC (Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor) preferred.
Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
