The Nursing Station Technician assists professional caregivers in patient care delivery, manages clerical duties, and coordinates communication flow on the unit. They are responsible for stocking supplies, transporting patients, and performing basic patient care tasks under the direction of a nurse.
Candidates must have Basic Life Support certification and either a Nursing Assistant certification, completion of a specific training program, or six months of direct care experience. Current enrollment in a nursing program with completed clinical rotations is also an acceptable qualification.

M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital offers care to people living and working in the southwest Twin Cities metro area. With more than 40 specialty services, we combine talents to balance innovative technologies and treatments with the art of medicine. The Neuroscience Intermediate Care (IMC) unit is a 29-bed inpatient unit specialized in caring for adult patients with complex neurological and/or neurosurgical conditions which require close observation with frequent monitoring, assessments, and interventions. The patient population includes but is not limited to stroke (ischemic or hemorrhagic), post-craniotomy or neurosurgical procedures, seizure disorders, traumatic brain injury (TBI), complex spinal cord injuries, and neurodegenerative conditions requiring acute management. The unit is fast-paced and challenging with many valuable learning opportunities.
The NST is responsible for assisting the professional caregiver in the delivery of patient care, transporting patient and / or equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, reordering and stocking supplies. Performs a wide range of clerical, transcription, and maintenance of patient care unit desk area functions. Coordinates the flow of communication on a patient care unit. The NST does not work autonomously but under the direction of the professional nurse. They may or may not be given a patient care assignment based on unit needs and the discretion of the manager / charge nurse.
