Responsibilities
Perform clinical audiology testing and interpret results to determine the degree of hearing impairment for claimants. Document findings in electronic medical records and conduct otoscopic examinations and equipment calibration.
Requirements
Requires a Master's or Doctorate in Audiology and valid state licensure. Candidates must be proficient in computerized charting and possess strong communication skills with a typing speed of at least 35 WPM.
Audiologists are responsible for performing clinical audiology testing of claimants in-office using advanced technology and procedures.
The Office of Disability and Medical Assessment (DMA), the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and the Veterans Benefit Administration (VBA) have developed specific guides for conducting disability examinations. Audiologists are expected to be familiar with these guides as they complete VBA designated worksheets when examining conditions.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Responsible for administering and interpreting a variety of tests to determine the type and degree of hearing impairment, such as air and bone conduction, and speech reception and discrimination tests, the site of damage, and effects on comprehension and speech. Evaluates test results in relation to behavioral, social, educational and conduct medical record reviews of past audiograms and documents to determine the likely cause of the hearing loss, and to state the prognosis and address the issues of hearing loss and tinnitus. Operates computerized programs and utilizes application software and databases in order to enter, modify, and access information into/from electronic medical records, and utilizing report writing formats. Maintains patient confidentiality with written and verbal information per HIPAA. Responsible for conducting otoscopic examinations, cerumen management, and calibration checks of audiometric equipment. Conduct review of claimants’ records as needed. Participates in continuing education to continually improve skills and abilities and stay abreast of current practices and technologies. Participates in quality improvement and utilization review activities. Meet clients’ quality and submission time requirements. Perform other duties as assigned.
QualificationsMINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience
Master’s or Doctorate in Audiology. State licensure as an Audiologist. Experience in computerized charting at the time of visit. Typing at least 35 words per minute. Strong written and communication skills.
Preferred Experience
One year experience performing clinical audiology testing preferred.

Must be proficient in multiple software programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, and the Internet. Must be a qualified typist with a minimum of 35 W.P.M. Must demonstrate exceptional communication skills. Must be able to work independently, prioritize work activities and use time efficiently. Must be able to maintain confidentiality. Must be able to stay focused and concentrate under normal or heavy distractions.
LANGUAGE/COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze and interpret common correspondence, medical records and itemized billing statements, and legal contracts and documents. Ability to write clearly and informatively to all required audiences and edit own work for appropriate spelling and grammar. Ability to respond appropriately and professionally to all inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, upper management, and/or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information one-on-one, in small groups, and/or to clients or vendors of the company.
