Full job description
About This Role
As an Area Business Manager, Rare Diseases, you will play a critical role in driving patient identification, market development, and commercial success across the UAE and selected Gulf markets for Biogen’s Rare Disease portfolio.
This is not a traditional sales role. As the territory expert, you will own and drive your business independently, developing and executing territory, account, and customer engagement strategies while helping remove barriers to diagnosis, treatment access, and patient care. You will work across multiple functions and stakeholder groups, combining elements of account management, patient finding, market development, access support, and commercial execution.
You will build strong partnerships with physicians, multidisciplinary care teams, pharmacists, treatment centers, diagnosis centers, and other stakeholders involved in the rare disease patient journey. Internally, you will collaborate closely with Medical, Value & Access, Marketing, and Commercial colleagues to ensure aligned execution and maximize opportunities for patients living with rare diseases.
This role offers significant autonomy, visibility, and regional exposure, making it an excellent opportunity for someone looking to broaden their capabilities beyond a traditional field-based commercial role while developing expertise within one of Biogen’s strategic growth areas.
What You'll Do
Territory & Account Management
Develop and execute territory and account plans to drive patient identification, market development, and commercial performance.
Build deep understanding of key accounts, referral networks, treatment pathways, stakeholder priorities, and decision-making processes.
Establish and maintain strong relationships with neurologists, treatment centers, diagnosis centers, KMEs, and other key stakeholders involved in rare disease care.
Drive awareness, patient identification, retention, and support initiatives in collaboration with cross-functional partners.
Commercial Execution & Business Planning
Deliver against territory sales objectives, market share goals, and business priorities while effectively managing resources and activities.
Develop annual territory business plans with clear account priorities, opportunities, risks, and action plans.
Identify and assess patient access opportunities and barriers across the patient journey.
Provide field insights and customer feedback to support commercial strategy and integrated customer engagement planning.
Mobilize internal and external resources to address customer needs and improve patient outcomes.
Collaborate closely with Medical, Market Access, Marketing, and other customer-facing teams to drive alignment and execution.
Support peer-to-peer education programs, speaker initiatives, referral network development, and rare disease awareness activities.
Build trust and influence across multiple stakeholders to drive decisions and remove barriers to care.
Patient Journey & Access Optimization
Support healthcare providers and stakeholders in understanding patient pathways, diagnosis challenges, and treatment options.
Help identify opportunities to improve patient access and treatment initiation.
Work collaboratively with Centers of Excellence and treatment centers to optimize care pathways and address operational challenges impacting patients.
Scientific & Market Expertise
Maintain a deep understanding of rare diseases, treatment landscapes, market dynamics, and healthcare systems.
Stay current on clinical data, competitive developments, and emerging trends within the rare disease space.
Act as an ambassador for Biogen’s commitment to science, innovation, and patients living with rare diseases.
Compliance & Operational Excellence
Maintain accurate CRM documentation, reporting, expense management, and administrative activities.
Ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with local regulations, industry standards, and Biogen compliance requirements.
Demonstrate a professional and ethical approach in all customer interactions and business activities.
Who You Are
You are a highly driven and customer-focused commercial professional who thrives in a field-based environment. You combine strong relationship-building skills with scientific curiosity, business acumen, and a passion for improving patient outcomes. You are comfortable working autonomously, navigating complex stakeholder environments, and influencing without authority. Above all, you are motivated by the opportunity to help identify and support patients living with rare diseases while contributing to Biogen’s mission of advancing innovative therapies.
Required Skills
Relevant university degree; Master’s degree is an advantage.
Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar commercial role within the pharmaceutical industry.
Experience within the Gulf region pharmaceutical market environment.
Rare Disease experience preferred, or strong learning agility to quickly develop expertise in rare neurological diseases.
Commercial experience across the UAE required; broader Gulf experience is highly desirable.
Proven track record of achieving and exceeding sales objectives.
Strong stakeholder engagement, influence, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
Excellent analytical and business planning capabilities.
Ability to work effectively across a matrix organization and lead through collaboration.
Strong scientific aptitude with the ability to discuss complex clinical information confidently.
Arabic and English language proficiency required.
High integrity, strong accountability, and commitment to compliance and ethical business practices.
