The Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Multi-Domain Operations, and Missile Defense Integration Business Unit (BU), Advanced Programs group has an exciting career opportunity for an Agile Leader/Release Train Engineer (RTE)/Staff Systems Engineer Level 5. We are working on an autonomous distributed tracking system - Join our high performing software team and come make history with us! The position is located on-site in Boulder, CO. Boulder is nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, and only 25 miles from downtown Denver.
Position Overview:
As a Staff Systems Engineer – Level 5 you will be developing and sustaining systems using current technologies and others yet to come. The Advanced Programs (AP) organization pushes the boundaries of innovation, redefines engineering capabilities, and drives advances in mathematics. Our team is chartered with providing innovative technologies to develop, design, and produce optimized product lines across multiple customers while providing a decisive advantage to the warfighter.
Essential Functions:
The selected candidate will be the point of contact for aspects of systems engineering with a focus on managing and leading agile processes for the program. The responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Implement and manage Agile practices for two AP programs
Plan, coordinate, lead program increments for two AP programs
Manage workflows 1) within teams, 2) between teams, and 3) across work centers using Jira Scrum and Kanban boards
Keep Jira compliant to customer’s requirements of mapping SOW tasks to Jira Epics and stories at each PI boundary and maintain that rhythm within each PI to enable technical progress visibility to customer
Increase throughput by identifying constraints, mitigate dependencies causing bottlenecks, and reducing wait time
Identify opportunities to standardize recurring processes
Schedule and lead formal program increment (PI) planning and backlog review events. Gov. Customer and Internal events.
Experience with managing and pruning backlog – Collab with Tech leaders
Facilitate project leads with time phasing milestones and develop/map epics, features, stories to milestones
Creates Confluence and Jira templates for project leads
Coordinate multiple agile teams to ensure alignment with agile practices
Drive continuous improvement by enhancing processes, removing impediments, and optimizing value delivery
Act as a key liaison between teams and stakeholders to help navigate organizational challenges
Foster a culture of respect and psychological safety to enable collaboration among individuals on the train
Experience with Lean and Scaled Agile Framework approaches
Understand project budget and how budgeting works within an agile environment
Experience with transitioning mature teams from Waterfall to Agile
Create metrics beneficial to managing project progress and identifying efficiencies and inefficiencies
Derive and allocate requirements into detailed design.
Oversee and manage the engineering design, development of software, systems, and hardware engineering.
Drives the engineering process development, continuous improvement, and affordability initiatives within their program.
Communicate regularly with program management, customers, and engineering management.
Coordinates with HW/SW team to perform retests and regression tests once defects are corrected.
Generate applicable documentation.
Provides problem resolution and improvement recommendations with strong time management skills.
The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative/team settings across all levels.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 12 years of related experience, or a Master's STEM Degree and 10 years of experience, or a STEM PhD and 8 years of experience.
Excellent technical writing skills for generating analysis and reports.
Experience leading Agile teams & hands-on experience with Jira
Experience with MS Office suite of tools (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government issued Secret security clearance at the time of application and is required to start.
Ability and willingness to travel up-to 10% to support business needs
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Math or related discipline.
Knowledge of a requirements management tool (i.e. DOORS, Cameo).
Willingness to obtain a TS/SCI clearance
Experience in modeling tools (preferably Rhapsody or Cameo).
Experience in using a requirements management tool, such as DOORS to update and write system level requirements.
Experience with SysML, UML.
Experience in programs using the Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodology.
Primary Level Salary Range: $177,000.00 - $221,300.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
