Full job description
FMI has been a leading solutions provider of high-temperature materials and composites for more than 55 years, serving the Department of Defense and NASA.
Our materials are being used on ground-breaking space initiatives, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles.
FMI Composites is an equal opportunity employer and considers qualified applicants for employment without regard to race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, marital or civil partnership status, pregnancy, age, disability, veteran status or any other protected factor under federal, state or local law.
Job Summary:
FMI is seeking a detail-oriented Quality Control (QC) Inspector to ensure all products and materials meet our rigorous quality and safety standards before they reach the customer. In this role, you will monitor operations, examine raw materials, inspect in-process production, and inspect finished goods for defects or deviations per specifications. The ideal candidate possesses excellent analytical skills, an eye for precision, and a strong understanding of manufacturing and compliance processes.
Job Responsibilities:
Follow work instructions, production procedures, specifications, safety requirements, diagrams, and schedules.
Inspect incoming raw goods and in-process goods to ensure they meet internal and customer requirements.
Perform intermittent QC checks and process verifications throughout material creation.
Identify, flag, and segregate non-conforming or defective items to prevent them from moving downstream in the supply chain.
Inspect materials and perform quality checks using scales, calipers, gauges, and other measuring tools.
Record inspection results and complete required computer entries, production records, equipment logs, and safety and quality documentation.
Safely move materials using hoists, electric pallet jacks, and other approved material-handling equipment.
Partner with production teams to troubleshoot recurring issues, find root causes, and maximize first-pass yield.
Work safely in a manufacturing environment with exposure to moving equipment, fumes, airborne particles, loud noise, heights, chemicals, electrical hazards, and vibration.
Crosstrain and assist coworkers to support a flexible, team-oriented production environment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
What We Need from You:
High school diploma or GED required. Associate’s degree or technical certification is a plus.
1+ year of quality, manufacturing or related experience preferred; composites, textiles, or similar manufacturing experience is a plus.
Must be a U.S. citizen and be able to obtain and maintain the security clearance required for this position. This position also requires access to export-controlled information for which U.S. Person status is required under applicable U.S. export control laws and regulations.
Strong commitment to safety, quality, and attention to detail.
Mechanical aptitude and ability to learn equipment operation, troubleshooting, and production processes.
Ability to understand and follow written, verbal, diagram, and schedule-based instructions.
