The Safety Technician is responsible for performing daily project safety oversight, conducting observations, and ensuring compliance with OSHA requirements at job sites and facilities. They coordinate with supervisors to address safety issues and implement corrective actions to prevent serious injuries.
Candidates must possess 4 to 6 years of experience in shipyard safety and hold multiple OSHA certifications, including Maritime and Fall Protection. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to obtain a TWIC card and access to marine facilities are mandatory.
The Norfolk Safety Manager is responsible for supporting the safety program and the overall compliance of safety and compliance of OSHA requirements for their branch and as assigned. This position reports directly to the Corporate Safety Manger.
This position may have supervisory responsibility in the future.
This job operates on various job sites and in an office setting. The Norfolk Safety Manager must be proficient in using standard office equipment such as computers, laptops, desk phones, cell phones photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing some duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibrations, noisy, and hot and cold temperatures. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. The Norfolk Safety Manager will be required to wear safety compliant hearing, eye, head protection and other PPE when required. Visits may require standing on a variety of surfaces and at differing angles, bending over, crouching, and climbing up and over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, and internal barge and boat structures.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The Norfolk Safety Manager is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to twenty-five pounds and occasionally lift and move up to fifty pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or as required. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Must be willing to work holidays as needed.
