Full job description
Harness is the AI Software Delivery Platform company, led by technologist and entrepreneur Jyoti Bansal (founder of AppDynamics, acquired by Cisco for $3.7B). Harness has raised approximately $570M in funding and is valued at $5.5B, backed by leading investors including Goldman Sachs, Menlo Ventures, IVP, Unusual Ventures, Citi Ventures, and more. As AI accelerates code creation, the real bottleneck has shifted to everything after the code – testing, deployments, application security, reliability, compliance, and cost optimization. Harness brings AI and automation to this “outer loop,” helping teams ship software faster while maintaining security and governance throughout the entire software delivery lifecycle.
Powered by Harness AI and the Software Delivery Knowledge Graph, the Harness Platform applies deep context and intelligent automation across the software delivery lifecycle with governance and policy-driven controls embedded throughout the platform.
Over the past year, Harness powered over 185M deployments, 82M builds, 18T flag evaluations, 8M security scans, 9.1B optimized tests, 3T protected API calls, and helped manage $2.8B in cloud spend — enabling customers like United Airlines, Morningstar, and Choice Hotels to accelerate releases by up to 75%, reduce cloud costs by up to 60%, and achieve 10x DevOps efficiency.
With a global team across 26 offices and 27 countries, Harness is shaping the future of AI software delivery — and we’re looking for exceptional talent to help us move even faster.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of IT Infrastructure, the Senior IT Systems Administrator plays a critical role in owning, scaling, and securing Harness’ corporate IT environment. This is a hands-on, senior individual contributor role focused on identity, SaaS platforms, device management, automation, and security in a fast-growing, global company.
This position is ideal for someone who has already operated at scale, is comfortable owning systems end-to-end, and thrives in environments where automation, security, and user experience matter.
About the role
Core Systems
Administer identity and access management platforms (Okta, SSO, SCIM, lifecycle workflows)
Manage and optimize SaaS applications (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Atlassian, Slack, etc.)
Lead device management for macOS and mobile platforms using MDM solutions (Kandji (Iru), ManageEngine)
Serve as a primary SME for core corporate IT systems
Automation & Efficiency
Design, build, and maintain automation workflows using Workato, BetterCloud, Okta Workflows, and similar tools
Identify manual or error-prone processes and proactively replace them with scalable automation
Partner with internal teams to deliver automation that improves efficiency and employee experience
Security & Reliability
Maintain a security-first mindset across identity, endpoints, SaaS, and access controls
Support and improve endpoint and infrastructure security (SentinelOne, Qualys, RBAC models)
Participate in system monitoring, incident response, and root-cause analysis
Assist with networking and infrastructure initiatives (Meraki, Cisco)
Operational Excellence
Lead and execute IT projects from design through delivery
Provide Tier-3 level troubleshooting and escalation support
Create and maintain high-quality documentation, runbooks, and knowledge base articles
Participate in a rotating on-call schedule
Ability to travel between company offices on an as-needed basis to support infrastructure projects, deployments, and on-site initiatives, including office buildouts, technology setups, and the resolution of complex on-site issues
Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with the role
About you
Experience
5+ years in a similar role in a growing or enterprise environment
Experience supporting 1,000+ end users across multiple locations
Proven ability to operate independently and own systems without heavy oversight
Strong macOS and Windows 11 administration experience
Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (DNS, routing, hardware basics)
Security & Architecture
Strong grasp of access controls, RBAC, and security best practices
Experience applying security frameworks in day-to-day operations
Comfortable balancing security requirements with user experience
Project & Communication Skills
Demonstrated success leading IT projects (email migrations, SaaS rollouts, VoIP, security initiatives)
Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
Clear documentation and structured problem-solving approach
The position requires a balance of proactive project work and reactive support, with the flexibility to pivot between long-term initiatives and immediate technical issues.
Nice to Have
Scripting experience (Bash, PowerShell, Python)
Experience integrating or leveraging AI-driven IT tools
Prior experience in high-growth or SaaS companies
Why This Role Is Different
You’ll own systems, not just tickets
Heavy emphasis on automation and scale, not manual admin work
Partnership with security, engineering, and business leaders
Influence over tooling, architecture, and IT standards
Work Location
Hybrid, Mountain View, CA
What you will have at Harness
Competitive salary
Comprehensive healthcare benefits
Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
Flexible work schedule
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
Flexible Time Off and Parental Leave
Monthly, quarterly, and annual social and team building events
