About the business unit
Mott MacDonald’s Advisory and Programme Delivery (APD) unit delivers both project, programme & commercial management (PPCM) services and advisory solutions across the built environment, defence, energy, water, environmental, transportation, health and care sectors.
We deliver tailored solutions that directly address our clients’ key challenges, combining our world-leading project expertise with unrivalled programme delivery capabilities and advisory services.
APD delivers services to projects ranging in scale and complexity up to £20bn, through the technical disciplines of programme management, project management, project controls, scheduling, cost management, estimating, infrastructure finance, management consulting, digital consulting and education, health and care management.
Overview of the role
You will lead and deliver complex digital and data-enabled assignments across project, programme and PMO environments. Working with project teams and senior stakeholders, you will combine high-level specialist advice with practical delivery to improve information, reporting, automation, data quality and decision support.
You will lead workstreams from discovery through implementation, assurance, adoption and handover. At Grade E, the role also includes supervising and coaching colleagues, reviewing delivery quality, building trusted client relationships and contributing to the development of repeatable Digital PMO services and new opportunities.
Key responsibilities and duties include:
Lead complex digital and data workstreams, managing scope, priorities, risks, decisions, dependencies and delivery outcomes
Provide high-level specialist advice on digital delivery, analytics, reporting, information management, automation and data quality in PMO and project controls settings
Engage senior client and internal stakeholders to define outcomes, challenge assumptions, prioritise requirements and agree proportionate delivery approaches
Oversee the design and delivery of dashboards, data models, integration pipelines, workflow automation, collaboration environments and management information products
Establish proportionate governance, architecture, data lineage, security, testing, quality assurance and documentation requirements
Manage and supervise colleagues, delegate effectively, review outputs and coach junior and mid-career practitioners
Contribute to bids, proposals, planning, estimating, mobilisation and the development of new or repeatable Digital PMO services
Build and maintain professional networks across business units, disciplines, clients and relevant external communities
Identify opportunities for responsible innovation that improve client outcomes, delivery efficiency and service quality

Candidate specification
Essential:
A track record of leading and delivering complex digital, data, analytics or automation assignments in project, programme, PMO or consulting environments
Ability to provide high-level specialist advice, make sound delivery decisions and remain accountable for high-quality outcomes
Experience leading workstreams or supervising others, including delegation, quality review, coaching and development support
Strong stakeholder and consulting skills, including working with senior clients and translating ambiguous needs into agreed delivery approaches
Broad practical knowledge across digital reporting, data modelling, information management, workflow automation and solution assurance, with depth in at least one area
Experience contributing to bids, proposals, service development or business growth and building networks across teams, clients or sectors
Desirable:
Experience in project controls, infrastructure, engineering consultancy, public-sector programmes or another regulated delivery environment
Practical experience with Power BI, Power Query, SQL, Python, Power Automate, Microsoft Fabric, Azure services, APIs, Git or comparable technologies
Knowledge of enterprise or project controls platforms such as Primavera P6, Deltek Cobra, SAP, SharePoint or comparable systems
Experience establishing reusable standards, data products, common data environments, technical assurance or governance frameworks
A relevant chartered or equivalent professional accreditation, or willingness to work towards one where appropriate to the final role profile
