Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking an experienced and highly organised Maintenance Officer to join our team in a full-time, permanent position.
Based at our Springfield campus, this role will be part of a landmark moment in Queensland healthcare at Mater Hospital Springfield — having recently opened in 2026. This state-of-the-art facility will meet the needs of the growing Greater Springfield region. With a mix of public and private beds across ICU, maternity, emergency and medical, surgical services, it’s set to care for over 200,000 patients annually.
What you’ll be doing
Reporting to the Engineering Services Manager, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality carpentry and joinery maintenance services across Mater Health Services facilities. You will perform preventative and corrective maintenance, renovations, repairs and project work to ensure our facilities remain safe, functional and well-presented for patients, visitors and staff.
Key responsibilities include:
- Carry out repairs, maintenance, renovations and modification works across Mater facilities.
- Deliver maintenance services in accordance with relevant standards, legislation, regulations and Mater policies.
- Plan and undertake preventative maintenance, inspections, breakdown repairs and equipment overhauls.
- Complete maintenance documentation, work orders, reports and records using electronic maintenance systems.
- Coordinate and oversee contractors, consultants and other trades personnel as required.
- Participate in on-call and after-hours maintenance rosters when required.
- Support the development of safe work procedures and safety documentation.
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring and support to apprentices and team members.
- Assist in developing maintenance schedules and asset maintenance strategies.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently and with minimal disruption.
About you
Essential Qualifications:
- Certificate III in Carpentry and Joinery (or equivalent trade qualification).
- Current C Class Driver's Licence.
Skills and Experience:
- Strong knowledge of carpentry and joinery trade practices and standards.
- Understanding of Workplace Health and Safety legislation and regulations.
- Experience operating fixed machinery and using a range of trade tools and equipment.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Well-developed customer service and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of workmanship, safety and professionalism.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work across a variety of maintenance and project activities.
