POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the mission advancement of the YMCA of the Twin Tiers, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
The Wellness Lead supports the Wellness Director in the day-to-day leadership, operation, growth, and success of the Wellness Department. This position plays an integral role in delivering exceptional member experiences while assisting with staff leadership, personal training, wellness programming, member engagement, marketing initiatives, and department operations.
The Wellness Lead serves as a role model for YMCA values by creating a welcoming, inclusive, and motivating environment where members feel connected, supported, and inspired to achieve their health and wellness goals.
This position is results-oriented and assists in achieving department goals related to personal training revenue, wellness participation, membership engagement, retention, and overall member satisfaction. The Wellness Lead demonstrates initiative, professionalism, creativity, strong communication skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement while supporting the mission of strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Delivers high-quality Wellness Consultations, Personal Training sessions, and wellness coaching that support member success and YMCA mission outcomes.
2. Provides exceptional member service by creating a welcoming, safe, inclusive, and motivating Wellness Center environment.
3. Builds authentic relationships with members through regular interaction, encouragement, accountability, and connection to YMCA programs and services.
4. Assists the Wellness Director in achieving department goals related to personal training revenue, program participation, member engagement, conversion, and retention.
5. Assists in recruiting, onboarding, mentoring, scheduling, and supporting Wellness staff as directed.
6. Serves as the lead staff member in the Wellness Center during assigned shifts by modeling professionalism, customer service, and operational excellence.
7. Assists with planning, implementing, evaluating, and improving Wellness programs based on member feedback, participation trends, and community needs.
8. Supports department marketing initiatives by designing promotional graphics, flyers, digital signage, social media content, and program advertisements using approved YMCA branding standards.
9. Assists in creating engaging social media posts, member communications, and email marketing campaigns that promote Wellness programs, special events, personal training services, and healthy living initiatives.
10. Collaborates with the Marketing Department and Wellness Director to ensure timely promotion of programs, challenges, events, and seasonal initiatives.
11. Maintains accurate records for personal training, consultations, program participation, and department reporting.
12. Assists with member retention initiatives by conducting follow-up communications, encouraging program progression, and supporting relationship-building efforts.
13. Monitors Wellness Center cleanliness, organization, equipment condition, and safety standards, reporting maintenance needs promptly and coordinating repairs as assigned.
14. Enforces YMCA policies, procedures, and risk management standards while responding appropriately to emergency situations.
15. Maintains current knowledge of wellness trends, exercise science, behavior change strategies, and YMCA best practices through continuing education.
16. Participates in department meetings, one-on-one coaching meetings, association training, and professional development opportunities.
17. Supports branch-wide events, annual campaign efforts, member appreciation activities, community outreach initiatives, and other YMCA events as assigned.
18. Performs additional duties as assigned to support association goals and departmental success.

QUALIFICATIONS:
● Nationally accredited Personal Training certification (ACE, NASM, ACSM, NSCA, ISSA, AFAA, NETA, or equivalent) or Group Exercise certification required.
● CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within required timeframe).
● Minimum one year of experience in wellness, fitness, personal training, or group exercise leadership.
● Demonstrated ability to motivate, coach, and build relationships with individuals of diverse backgrounds and fitness levels.
● Strong organizational and time management skills.
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
● Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
● Experience with Canva or other graphic design software preferred.
● Experience creating social media content and marketing materials preferred.
● Experience with email marketing platforms, member engagement software, or CRM systems preferred.
● Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team.

The employee is often required to: climb, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, or stand for extended period of time, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear, and have visual acuity.
Travel to various locations for events may be required. While performing the duties of this job at outdoor events, the employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
1. The following training courses are required before beginning work: Child Abuse Prevention; Bloodborne Pathogens; Slips, Trips, and Falls; Harassment Safety.
2. Other required training per the position.
3. Certifications required within 90 days of hire: New Hire Orientation.
