Overview

Do you love fun? Who doesn't, right? What about games? Do you love games? How about science projects and artsy crafty stuff?

We are hiring now at all levels for our school aged programs. The YMCA's Youth Programs are growing fast, and we are seeking outstanding Program Leaders to support our expanding school-age offerings and grow into leadership roles at the YMCA of Northern Colorado. We are looking for candidates who love to get creative with construction paper and duct tape, who are happy to help kids with even the most challenging homework and who are always ready for a game of tag. We are looking for staff to ensure our kiddos are safe, secure and engaged while teaching them our core values: respect, responsibility, honesty and caring. Help us make a positive difference in the lives of those we serve each day in our programs.

 

Shifts/Hours: Program hours are mornings 6:45am-8am (9am on Wednesdays) and/or 2:30-6:00pm M-F and more hours available on days when school is out for full day camp. We prefer staff to be available at least 3 consistent days per week, but we are also looking for substitutes. You can choose to do just before school, just after school, or a combination.

 

The salary range: $16.00-$18.00 per hour based on experience, availability, and state licensing guidelines. This position is part time, year-round with opportunities for full time for summer season. In addition, we offer a +10% differential for bilingual staff (Spanish and English).

Responsibilities

  • Job responsibilities include working as part of our site team to ensure a safe and challenging environment for our school age participants implementing our core values, gym and group games, arts and crafts.
  • Program Leaders independently lead and supervise children in small and large group activities.
  • Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  • Maintains an open, friendly, professional relationship with staff, parents, participants and community members.
  • Maintains confidentiality of YMCA issues, incidents and records.
  • Is on time for all shifts; and is flexible to accommodate unexpected schedule changes, including full days.
  • Provides leadership and support to Program Aides and Volunteers.
  • Practices positive guidance and preventative discipline techniques to participants with natural consequences in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures and expectations.

Qualifications

  • Age 18 years or older.
  • Provide documentation of 480 hours of experience working directly with school-age children in such areas as Sunday school, Scouts, sports, or babysitting.
  • Become certified or supply documentation of current certification in CPR and First Aid (can be complete through the YMCA).
  • Work well on a team, communicate well with youth, parents and colleagues, and be committed to high quality programming.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/FUNCTIONAL ATTRIBUTES

           

Essential functions are the fundamental job duties, meaning the position exists to perform the function; there is a limited number of employees among whom the performance of the function can be distributed; and/or the incumbent is hired for expertise or ability to perform the function due to its high specialization. General Physical Requirements

  • Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Physical Activities List

  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
  • Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
  • Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
  • Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.
  • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and make fine discriminations in sound.

Visual Acuity

  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly of fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
