Description

United Way for Greater AustinCommunity Resource & Engagement CoordinatorDepartment: Community Health & Resource NavigationFull-time, Regular, Non-Exempt

Who we are:

United Way for Greater Austin brings our community together to break economic barriers and build opportunity for all. We break the cycle of economic hardships for families and individuals, striving to create a vibrant, thriving community. Recognizing the urgency of addressing economic challenges, we focus on increasing the availability of high-quality early care and education and access to pivotal resources to address financial barriers in Central Texas. Our united front includes dedicated donors, volunteers, corporate and civic partners, staff, and a connected network of neighbors. Together, we leverage data, community alliances, services, and public engagement to transform Central Texas, responding to urgent needs with lasting, impactful solutions.

Who we want:

The Community Resource & Engagement Coordinator is detail-oriented and passionate about making vital social service information accessible to various audiences in multiple formats. You’ll have excellent writing, editing, networking, and communication skills and enjoy building relationships with community-based organizations, government, disaster response organizations and other non-profit agencies across our regions. As a self-starter with strong time management skills, you'll manage high-quality community resources across United Way's multi-region service area — including the 211 and ConnectCTX referral platforms — while building partnerships and recruiting community-based organizations to engage with United Way programs. You'll also serve as the operational lead for disaster response coordination across all covered regions, working in support of the Community Resource & Engagement Sr. Manager, who retains strategic oversight of contract compliance and statewide relationships. While based remotely in the region, you'll remain a full member of the Community Resource & Engagement team in Austin, connected through regular check-ins, shared trainings, and team collaboration.

This is a remote position based within the Rio Grande Valley or Laredo area, with occasional in-region travel for outreach.

Who you are:

  • Mission focused and results driven. You’re committed to breaking down barriers to economic prosperity in our community. You’re focused on driving internal and external partners toward a common goal, and don’t shy away from challenges as you work toward positive results.
  • Available and rooted in the community you serve. You live in, or are ready to relocate to, the Rio Grande Valley or Laredo area, and you're able to respond during scheduled disaster duty windows, including nights, weekends, and holidays when needed.
  • An excellent communicator. You have the ability to listen actively and effectively communicate orally and in writing complex information in a compelling manner to a variety of audiences. You can influence decision-makers at all levels, and you’re confident speaking with a broad spectrum of stakeholders and partners. You maintain high ethical standards for confidentiality and respectful communication. You’re comfortable and competent with a wide range of communication tools, including social media.
  • Detail-oriented and tactical. You can organize and maintain accurate data across multiple systems and timelines, keeping resource information and disaster response documentation reliable and accountable. You have the ability to learn quickly and thrive on identifying solutions in a dynamic environment where you can assess internal and external conditions that affect your project goals. You get energized by identifying and recommending improvements to program implementation and delivery.
  • Interpersonal savvy: You relate comfortably with people across levels, functions, cultures, and geography and act diplomatically and tactfully. You build a rapport in an open, friendly, and accepting way and develop constructive relationships with people similar and different to yourself.
  • Collaborates: You work cooperatively with all departments across the organization to achieve shared objectives and represent their interests while being fair to others and their area. You partner with others to get work done and credit others for their contributions and accomplishments — you garner the trust and support of others.
  • A strong writer and editor. You are able to clearly describe complex information in adherence to a style guide.
  • Able to manage complexity: Asks the right questions to accurately analyze situations. Acquires data from multiple and diverse sources when solving problems. Uncovers root causes to difficult problems. Evaluates pros and cons, risks and benefits of different solution options.

What you’ll do:

  • Ensure that United Way resource databases for the Rio Grande Valley and Laredo area are comprehensive, up-to-date, accurate, and easy to use for callers and online users, and adhere to database policies, procedures, and criteria established by organizational, state, and national governing bodies. Research, gather, and analyze community service information, and complete daily database edits and full agency reviews.
  • Build awareness of 2-1-1, ConnectCTX, and other programs across United Way’s multi-region area.
  • Engage and support community partners and social service providers to maintain up-to-date resource information, participate in a closed-loop navigation system, and help organizations implement 2-1-1, ConnectCTX, and other United Way programs into their workflows.
  • Provide outreach and education to community-based organizations, attend community events, and create and conduct navigation programs and community resource trainings across the Rio Grande Valley and Laredo area as needed.
  • Support frontline staff through resource database, seasonal programs, training, and respond to staff resource verification and new agency requests.
  • Serve as the operational lead for disaster resource response across the Rio Grande Valley, Laredo area, and South Central Texas region, planning and executing response efforts before, during, and after disasters, in support of the Community Resource & Engagement Sr. Manager.
  • Serve as the on-call point of contact for statewide 2-1-1 disaster resource coordination, gathering and disseminating time-sensitive, critical information including Resource News Item (RNI) management, Local Impact Summaries (LIS), and network After Action Reports (AAR).
  • Escalate contract-level decisions, statewide policy questions, and high-severity disaster events to the Community Resource & Engagement Sr. Manager.
  • Assist other staff and perform other duties as assigned by the Community Resource & Engagement Sr. Manager.

What you’ll bring:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • At least three years of full-time work experience in community engagement, non-profit, disaster response, or library settings
  • Considerable knowledge of community resources, social service landscape, or disaster response efforts
  • Experience managing community resource databases or referral platforms strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with border-region social services, immigration-adjacent resource networks, and the community context of the Rio Grande Valley and Laredo area strongly preferred
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Passion for improving access to information
  • Excellent communication skills and internal/external customer service skills are required
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred, given the communities served
  • Ability to work independently across a multi-region service area with minimal day-to-day oversight, including 24/7 availability and travel during scheduled disaster duty windows
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license for regional travel
  • Must reside within the Rio Grande Valley or Laredo area (Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr, Willacy, Jim Hogg, Webb, or Zapata counties)

What you’ll receive:

  • Dynamic and rewarding work environment
  • Competitive Compensation
  • Hybrid Work Option
  • Employer 403(b) Matching
  • Employer-Sponsored Health Insurance (for employees)
  • Dental Insurance
  • Vision Insurance
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
  • Generous Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • FMLA
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
This role will support the Community Resource & Engagement team, based in Austin, Texas, and will report directly to the Community Resource & Engagement Sr. Manager.

Notice: The job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee occupying this position. Management can assign or reassign duties and responsibilities at any time. United Way for Greater Austin is an “at-will” employer.
