Description
The Outside Operator – Packaging ensures products are efficiently and accurately prepared for shipment while maintaining high standards of safety and quality. This role focuses on running packaging equipment, inspecting finished goods, and coordinating with the production and warehouse teams to meet daily output targets. The Operator plays a key part in maintaining orderly, safe, and compliant packaging operations.
Packaging Line Activity & Material Handling
1. Operate filling, sealing, labeling, or drum/ tote handling equipment as part of scheduled packaging runs.
2. Stage packaging materials, containers, and supplies before each production shift.
3. Inspect filled containers for appearance, weight accuracy, and correct labels.
4. Adjust machine settings or perform minor reset steps to maintain smooth line flow.
5. Move finished goods to designated storage areas using approved equipment or procedures.
Quality, Safety & Workplace Organization
6. Follow safe handling procedures for finished products, containers, and packaging materials.
7. Identify packaging defects, equipment concerns, or damaged materials and report them promptly.
8. Participate in packaging-related safety training, ergonomic awareness sessions, and equipment briefings.
9. Keep packaging areas clean, uncluttered, and ready for the next run.
10. Handle spill response or cleanup activities within trained scope.
Documentation & Coordination
11. Log packaging counts, materials used, and downtime reasons as required.
12. Communicate with production, warehouse, or quality teams to coordinate material flow and resolve issues.
13. Update labels, tags, or digital records for packaged products according to company standards.
14. Support changeovers by helping prepare equipment, remove old materials, and set up for the next product type.
Line Assistance & Continuous Support
15. Assist with minor maintenance tasks such as replacing consumables, checking guards, or ensuring proper alignment.
16. Contribute ideas for improving packaging efficiency, ergonomics, or product handling.
Perform other duties as needed to maintain efficient and accurate packaging operations.
Requirements
- Minimum 6 months - 1 year of experience in packaging, assembly, or warehouse operation
- Hands-on experience with packaging machinery, conveyors, labeling equipment, or automated lines
- Knowledge of inventory control, batch counting, and order tracking processes.
- Experience with quality inspections, documentation, and reporting in a production environment.
