Operate, maintain, and repair the Town's wastewater treatment plant, pumping stations, and water distribution systems. Monitor flows, perform lab tests for environmental compliance, and support 24/7 shift operations.
Requires a high school diploma or GED and a valid Maryland Class C driver's license. Candidates must obtain specific Maryland Water and Wastewater operator certifications within one to three years of employment.
Description
This is an entry-level position involving the safe operation, maintenance, and repair of the Town's wastewater treatment plant and related facilities, including pumping stations and water distribution systems. Employees are required to learn principles, practices, and methods used in water treatment operations, as well as the safe operation and servicing of equipment and machinery, handling and use of chemicals, working in and around environments containing chemicals and biologically active materials both indoors and outdoors in ambient conditions. Receives direction and tasks from any senior employee.
Starting Salary Range: $19.95– $22.94/hour, based on experience
Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt

In this role, you’ll be immersed in every aspect of wastewater treatment—from monitoring flows and adjusting processes to performing lab tests that help ensure environmental compliance. You’ll work with modern technology for data tracking and process control, support routine maintenance on a wide range of facility equipment, and help keep the plant in excellent working condition. You’ll also handle materials and chemical deliveries, operate Town vehicles and specialized machinery, and support shift coverage across our 24/7 operation, including occasional call-ins or overtime. When emergencies arise, you’ll be part of the team ensuring our collection and distribution systems stay safe and reliable for the community.

The worker is subject to outdoor environmental conditions. Unpleasantness such as a high level of noise, foul smells, sewage, dust, grease, and mud; Cold/Hot and/or wet/snowy weather.
