Full job description
Lead Performance. Develop People. Build What’s Next.
Total Management Systems is seeking an accomplished and driven Vice President of Operations to provide executive operational leadership across our hotel portfolio and help lead the company into its next stage of growth. The position is based in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
This is not a role for someone who simply maintains operations. We are looking for a hands-on hospitality leader who sets high expectations, develops strong General Managers, understands the numbers, drives accountability, and knows how to turn operational opportunities into measurable results.
At TMS, our culture is built around a simple commitment: “We’ve Got Your Back.” For our Vice President of Operations, that means supporting our leaders while holding them accountable, developing people for their next opportunity, removing barriers to success, and creating an environment where associates and hotels can perform at their best.
The successful candidate will balance people, performance and profitability while maintaining an unwavering focus on guest experience and positioning TMS for continued portfolio growth.
What You’ll Lead
Portfolio Performance & Operations
Provide executive oversight and direction to General Managers across the TMS hotel portfolio.
Establish clear performance expectations and hold hotel leadership accountable for operational, financial and guest service results.
Maintain a strong presence in the field through regular property visits, operational reviews and hands-on support. (60% of work takes place at the corporate office while 40% of work takes place visiting properties within the portfolio).
Identify underperforming hotels and develop focused action plans that produce measurable improvement.
Ensure hotels consistently meet or exceed brand standards and remain prepared for quality assurance inspections.
Drive operational efficiencies, consistent execution of company standards and continuous improvement throughout the portfolio.
Maintain strong oversight of hotel Food & Beverage operations, with a focus on quality, service, regulatory compliance and profitability.
Financial & Business Performance
Partner with General Managers and corporate leadership to achieve budgeted revenue, profitability and operational performance goals.
Analyze hotel Profit & Loss statements and challenge leaders to identify opportunities to improve productivity, control labor and reduce unnecessary expenses.
Lead the annual business planning and budgeting process across the portfolio.
Stay closely connected to property sales and revenue strategies and intervene when topline performance is not meeting expectations.
Leverage the strength of the portfolio to negotiate vendor relationships, control purchasing costs and improve operating efficiencies.
Use data and performance trends to move beyond identifying problems and drive solutions.
Guest Experience & Brand Excellence
Maintain a relentless focus on guest experience and service scores, with the expectation that TMS hotels perform above brand benchmarks.
Analyze guest feedback and brand metrics to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
Ensure brand loyalty programs, operational initiatives and service standards are consistently executed.
Provide additional leadership, training and property-level support when hotels are not meeting guest experience expectations.
Leadership & Culture
Champion TMS's “We’ve Got Your Back” culture throughout every level of the organization.
Coach, challenge and develop General Managers to become stronger business leaders—not simply hotel operators.
Build a culture of accountability where leaders understand their goals, own their results and have the support necessary to succeed.
Identify and develop future leaders to strengthen the company's internal leadership pipeline.
Foster strong working relationships between hotel leadership and the corporate team.
Model the professionalism, integrity, respect, responsiveness and accountability expected from TMS leaders.
Recognize success while addressing performance gaps directly, constructively and consistently.
Corporate Leadership & Growth
Serve as a key member of the corporate leadership team and maintain consistent communication regarding hotel performance, risks, opportunities and emerging operational issues.
Lead productive corporate and operational discussions focused on solutions, priorities and company objectives.
Partner with executive leadership on new hotel openings, acquisitions, property improvement initiatives and other development opportunities.
Assist with due diligence, operational projections, pro formas and evaluation of prospective projects.
Support the continued growth of TMS, including opportunities for third-party hotel management.
Represent TMS professionally within hospitality associations, business organizations and community partnerships.
Ensure properties within the portfolio are giving back with community involvement.
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate is a highly accountable, results-oriented hotel executive who understands that strong portfolio performance comes from both operational discipline and strong leadership.
Qualifications include:
3–5+ years of successful multi-property hotel operations leadership experience.
Ability and willingness to travel frequently throughout the hotel portfolio, including overnight travel as necessary.
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and significant hospitality leadership experience.
Demonstrated success improving hotel operational and financial performance.
Strong financial acumen with the ability to interpret P&Ls, budgets, labor metrics and operating performance.
Proven experience leading and developing General Managers and other senior hotel leaders.
Strong understanding of branded hotel operations, quality assurance requirements and guest service metrics.
Food & Beverage operational experience and an understanding of F&B profitability, quality and compliance.
Experience with hotel PMS platforms, brand systems, financial reporting tools, AI tools & Microsoft Office.
Exceptional judgment, communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Flexibility to respond when hotel operations require leadership outside traditional business hours.
The Leader Who Will Thrive at TMS
You are competitive about results without losing sight of people.
You walk into a hotel and quickly recognize what is working, what is not, and what needs to happen next. You are comfortable reviewing a P&L in the morning, coaching a General Manager in the afternoon, walking guestrooms and back-of-house areas during a property visit, and discussing a future hotel opportunity with executive leadership later that day.
You don't wait for someone else to solve a problem.
You develop leaders, expect accountability and follow through.
Most importantly, you understand that “We’ve Got Your Back” does not mean lowering expectations—it means giving people the leadership, tools, coaching and support they need to reach them.
Why TMS?
Total Management Systems is a growing hotel management company with a strong commitment to operational excellence, associate development and long-term growth.
We believe the best hotel companies are built by great leaders. Our “We’ve Got Your Back” culture reflects our commitment to developing our people, recognizing performance and creating opportunities for associates to grow their careers as our organization grows.
For the right operations executive, this position offers the opportunity to make a visible impact across an entire portfolio while helping shape the next chapter of TMS growth.
If you are driven by performance, energized by developing leaders, and ready to take ownership of results across a growing hotel portfolio, we want to hear from you.
