Coordinate and assist with legislative and regulatory advocacy at Texas Capitol, state executive branch offices, and federal government, as needed, for Texas Farm Bureau Insurance Companies in coordination with the Director of Government Relations and Compliance and Executive Vice President of the companies. Collaborate in the assessment and strategy for developing and maintaining relationships with elected officials and candidates. Provide information and counsel to the Director or Government Relations and Compliance.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY
To assist in the representation of the Texas Farm Bureau Insurance Companies on policy matters with the executive, and legislative branches of government at both the state and federal level and with other organizations, in consultation with the Director of Government Relations and Compliance.
Research, monitor and analyze proposed policies, rules and regulations impacting the companies.
Secure legislative consideration of measures favorable to Texas Farm Bureau Insurance Companies’ policy and amend or defeat measures contrary to those policies.
Assist in the development and coordination of programs to improve the effectiveness of Texas Farm Bureau Insurance Companies with legislators.
Prepare testimony before legislative committees and regulatory agencies for senior management and Director of Government Relations and Compliance.
Monitor and report on hearings of legislative committees and state regulatory agencies.
Represent companies at trade groups and secure established relationships and develop new relationships with industry peers and other stakeholder groups.
Participate in industry association meetings and activities on state, federal and regulatory issues.
Coordinate closely with Director of Government Relations and Compliance to accomplish company goals.
Collaborate closely with outside lobbyist.
Comply with all relevant state lobbying laws and regulations for registration and reporting.
Comply with the Certified Fleet Operation requirements of the Company Driving and Safety policy.
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Four-year degree from accredited college or university.
Extensive experience working with the federal or state legislature, legislative staff, private or public-sector experience in a related field.
Basic knowledge of the property and casualty insurance industry.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Strong presentation skills.
Valid Texas driver’s license and driving record at the time of hire which would not place the employee on probation or disqualify the employee from Certified Fleet Operator status under the Company Driving and Safety Policy.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Repeated use of PC, telephone, and office machines.
Extended periods of sitting and concentrating.
Occasional bending, twisting, crouching, pulling, pushing and reaching in an office environment.
Occasional lifting and moving items weighing up to 30 lbs.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Occasional long, irregular work hours.
Travel as required.
Work to be conducted in office environment owned or leased by company.
