Sponge Compliance is looking for experienced Freelance Senior Visual Designers to support a comprehensive product upgrade of our compliance learning library.
The work will focus on improving and upgrading the visual design of existing digital compliance learning content, ensuring courses remain visually engaging, learner-centred, clear, responsive, accessible and aligned to Sponge Compliance standards.
This role will support a high-volume learning content upgrade program, working closely with internal team members across instructional learning design, project management, QA and production. The role will primarily focus on visual design, illustration, UI design, and content enhancement, with potential to support motion design or animations where relevant and required.
• Initial assignment is expected to be approximately 2,5 months, with potential for further project-based work as the product initiative progresses.
• Start is project-based, with the aim to move into a full-time role after 2-3 initial weeks.
• Visual design support is required to support immediate and for future project needs.
• Work will be connected to the Berlin-based Sponge Compliance team, with the ability to work from the Berlin office regularly and when required, particularly during onboarding and key project phases.
• German language skills are required at native or business-fluent level, paired with strong English communication skills.
• The role will work closely with existing internal team members to support pace, quality, consistency and visual alignment across a larger product initiative.
• Phase 1: Project based as pilot/onboarding initiative: Create visual designs for learning content for customer projects to familiarise yourself with our learning content and learning strategy.
• Phase 2: Visual Design Templates:
Be part of the Visual Design team that creates new, advanced design templates for the library upgrade – based on assessments performed by the Instructional Design team.
• Creating and improving visual assets including layouts, icons, illustrations, graphics, UI elements and learner-facing design components.
• Phase 3: Migrate existing compliance learning content to new design templates, ensure visual improvements, layout updates and design enhancements are applied consistently.
• Supporting the visual upgrade of digital learning courses while maintaining consistency with Sponge Compliance standards and brand consistency.
• Applying accessibility, usability and learner-centred design principles to ensure content is clear, responsive, inclusive and easy to navigate.
• Working closely with Visual Designers, Learning Experience Designers, Project Managers, QA, Developers and subject matter stakeholders.
• Supporting design reviews, feedback cycles, quality checkpoints and handovers.
• Contributing asset creation, motion graphics, lightweight animation or interactive visual assets where required by project scope.
• Delivering agreed outputs within timeline and project plan while maintaining strong attention to design quality and detail.
• Proven experience in Visual (learning) Design, digital design, graphic design for learning-focused visual content development.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating layout, typography, illustration, digital and motion design and visual communication skills.
• Experience creating visual assets for digital products, learning content, SaaS, compliance training, corporate learning or similar environments are
beneficial.
• Strong understanding of accessibility, visual hierarchy, usability and learner-centred design.
• Confidence using Figma, Adobe Creative Suite and other relevant design tools.
Generative AI authoring tool experience would be a strong add-on.
• Experience with motion graphics, lightweight animation or tools such as Adobe After Effects, Lotti, etc. would be beneficial but is not essential.
• High attention to detail and confidence working with detailed or complex subject matter.
• Ability to work independently as a Freelancer while staying closely aligned with the extended internal team.
• Ability to work and deliver against timelines and project plans, ensuring the right balance between quality and pragmatism.
• German language skills at native or business-fluent level, paired with strong English communication skills.
