Job Title: Facilities Maintenance Technician
Reports to: Facilities Manager
Job Status: Non-Exempt
Location: Office Environment

Position Summary
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, and preventative maintenance tasks at SVDP-owned and operated properties throughout Greater Cincinnati. This role plays a critical part in maintaining safe, functional, and welcoming environments for neighbors, volunteers, and staff.
The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience across building systems, takes pride in quality workmanship, demonstrates a high degree of ownership, accountability, and attention to detail. This position requires a self-motivated individual who can work independently, manage priorities effectively, and take full responsibility for task completion, documentation, and service delivery once fully trained.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform maintenance and repairs to interior and exterior building systems, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, painting, and minor HVAC tasks.
  • Assess maintenance issues, determine appropriate repair solutions, and address root causes to prevent repeat problems.
  • Respond to routine and emergency maintenance requests across multiple SVDP facilities in a timely and professional manner.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and proactively identify safety or operational concerns.
  • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and suppliers to ensure timely completion of projects and cost-effective solutions.
  • Monitor work performed by external parties to ensure compliance with specifications, safety standards, and quality expectations.
  • Maintain organized and accurate records of work orders, inspections, and material usage in the agency’s maintenance tracking system.
  • Pick up, transport, and properly secure maintenance materials, tools, and equipment between locations.
  • Move, assemble, and install furniture, fixtures, and equipment as needed.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and promptly report hazards, unsafe conditions, or maintenance risks.
Ownership & Documentation Expectations (Integrated):
  • Take full ownership of assigned work orders from initiation through completion, ensuring tasks are completed accurately, efficiently, and to established standards.
  • Provide thorough, accurate, and timely documentation of all work performed, including clear and complete updates in work order systems to ensure transparency, traceability, and accountability.
  • Proactively manage workload and priorities, ensuring all assigned tasks are followed through to completion without the need for direct oversight.
  • Identify and resolve issues independently whenever possible, exercising sound judgment and initiative.
  • Deliver high-quality service to internal customers by maintaining strong communication, responsiveness, and professionalism.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in facilities maintenance, building trades, or a related field; additional experience is strongly valued.
  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record and the ability to regularly drive between multiple SVDP locations.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and maintenance documentation.
  • Familiarity with tools, materials, and equipment commonly used in building maintenance and repair (e.g., tape measure, level, etc.).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, sound judgment, and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Intermediate computer skills for tracking work orders, including accurate documentation and task scheduling.
Preferred Competencies
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage time effectively across multiple priorities.
  • Highly self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership, accountability, and follow-through.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, prioritize work, and complete tasks without constant direction.
  • Strong sense of pride in maintaining assigned facilities and delivering high-quality outcomes.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills and a customer-service-oriented mindset focused on internal customer satisfaction.
  • Flexibility to respond to shifting priorities, emergencies, and after-hours needs when required.
  • Understanding workplace safety practices, building codes, and emergency response procedures.
  • Certification or formal training in one or more of the following trades: HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or general building maintenance.
  • Willingness to share knowledge and support team members as needed.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent driving, standing, walking, climbing ladders, and lifting or moving items up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasional crawling, kneeling, crouching, stooping, or working in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work at heights and in varying indoor and outdoor conditions.
  • Must be able to walk multiple flights of stairs, depending on facility location.
  • Regular use of visual and auditory senses; occasional verbal communication.
Working Conditions
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors across multiple SVDP facilities. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to address emergencies or support special projects. Exposure to moderate noise levels, dust, chemicals, or temperature extremes may occur.

Core Values Alignment:
As a member of the Facilities Team, the Maintenance Technician directly supports the mission of St. Vincent de Paul by ensuring our service environments are safe, dignified, and welcoming. The quality, reliability, and completeness of this work directly impact the safety, comfort, and well-being of the neighbors, volunteers, and staff we serve every day.

Opportunities for Growth:
SVDP encourages ongoing learning and professional development. This role offers opportunities to expand technical skills, pursue relevant training or certifications, and grow within the Facilities or Operations teams based on performance, initiative, and demonstrated ownership of responsibilities.

Travel Expectations:
This position requires regular travel between St. Vincent de Paul facilities throughout the Greater Cincinnati area. A valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and the ability to safely drive as part of daily job responsibilities are required. Mileage reimbursement is provided in accordance with agency policy.

Additional Preferred Qualifications
OSHA certification, CPR/First Aid training, or other safety-related credentials are a plus.
