Sarasota County is seeking a Business Intelligence (BI) Engineer (IT Professional III) to support enterprise-wide data initiatives through advanced analytics, reporting, and data visualization. In this role, you’ll play a key part in transforming complex data into meaningful insights that support informed decision-making across the organization. You’ll develop and maintain enterprise reporting solutions, support data cataloging and data literacy efforts, and analyze large and complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights that help guide operational and strategic priorities.
This position also serves as a trusted partner to County departments, helping translate business needs into scalable and effective data solutions. The ideal candidate will bring strong organizational and multitasking skills, hands-on experience in data environments, and advanced technical knowledge of tools such as ADLS, Databricks, ADF, T-SQL, DAX, M-Code, and Python. About the Position
In this role, you will be responsible for...
Technical Lead / Project Management:
Lead software and hardware upgrade projects, ensuring deliverables, timelines, and business goals are met.
Provide technical guidance and strategic recommendations while keeping leadership informed of progress, risks, and solutions.
Design and implement technical solutions that align with business requirements and operational needs.
Support critical applications, including participation in an on-call rotation as needed.
Business Intelligence Support / Development:
Clean, analyze, and manage data to ensure accuracy, integrity, and reliability for reporting and decision-making.
Develop dashboards, reports, and visualizations using tools such as Power BI or Tableau to deliver actionable insights.
Build and maintain data pipelines, models, and analytics solutions using Python, SQL, Databricks, and Azure Data Platform.
Perform advanced analytics, including trend analysis, predictive modeling, and AI-driven reporting, while maintaining data governance and security standards.
Partnerships / Customer Service / Consulting:
Partner with stakeholders to understand business operations, identify needs, and recommend effective technical solutions.
Build strong working relationships through regular communication, meetings, and collaboration with customers and cross-functional teams.
Provide training, support, and clear guidance to end users and IT staff on systems and best practices.
Professional Development:
Stay current on emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in data analytics, system design, and software development.
Participate in training, conferences, workshops, and professional development opportunities to strengthen technical, communication, project management, and leadership skills.
About the Schedule
Work Hours:
Full-time, 40 hours per week.
Typical Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The business intelligence engineer position is involved in on-call technical support 24/7/365, with a mandatory personal cell phone required, per Administrative Directive 9.05.
As a reminder, all county employees are considered essential and must be prepared to protect and support the community and its citizens. Each employee, without exception, will have a duty assignment and be required to work during a disaster or declared emergency.

About You
To be considered for this role, you must have the following:
Minimum of a 4-year degree with 2+ years of related experience.
OR: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a specific field of endeavor, such as Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration with 2+ years of related experience.
OR: Master's degree from an accredited college or university with 1+ years of related experience.
OR: 6+ years of related experience may substitute for formal education at the discretion of management.
Valid Florida driver's license within 30 days of hire.

Strong ability to manage multiple priorities, stay organized, and adapt to changing workloads in a fast-paced environment.
Experience supporting and maintaining data environments, with a solid understanding of data reliability, performance, and production support.
Advanced technical knowledge of data and analytics tools such as ADLS, Databricks, ADF, T-SQL, DAX, M-Code, and Python, including working knowledge of statistical analysis and AI/ML algorithms.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to anticipate challenges, evaluate solutions, and make sound recommendations.
Strong communication, customer service, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to gather business requirements, work collaboratively, and operate independently with minimal supervision.
Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment for a period of 5 years.
Physical Demands: Employees in this role must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 lbs.
CJIS Clearance: The successful candidate will be subject to an extensive background check(s) as part of the hiring process.
About Everything Else
Starting Pay Range: $34.28 - $37.00, based on experience.
