In 1990, a small group of dedicated volunteers with a desire to eliminate substandard housing in our community founded San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity. Thanks to our supporters, more than 200 local and international families have been able to build or repair their own homes here in Los Angeles’ San Gabriel Valley and beyond. Through the years, we have maintained our unrelenting determination to help families in need by offering a hand up, not a handout. Through donations, shopping at our ReStores, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability, and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves.

Job Summary:

The ReStore Associate supports daily retail, warehouse, and online sales operations in a fast-paced environment by assisting customers, processing purchases, preparing and displaying merchandise, fulfilling online orders, and maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming store. This position works collaboratively with employees and volunteers to support efficient daily operations and provide excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Service and Sales

  • Provide excellent customer service by assisting customers with merchandise, answering questions, and supporting in-store sales.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to increase sales, promote available merchandise, and encourage new and repeat      customer business.
  • Operate the point-of-sale system and provide cash register coverage during peak hours and employee meal periods.
  • Collaborate with employees and volunteers to support daily sales operations and store initiatives.

Merchandise and Store Operations

  • Continuously identify, recommend and implement opportunities to improve the cleanliness, organization, safety,      appearance, and overall shopping experience of the ReStore.
  • Unload trucks and safely move merchandise to designated areas.

  • Prepare donated merchandise for sale by assembling, testing, cleaning, pricing, and displaying items appropriately.
  • Ensure essential equipment and supplies are available, organized, and properly stored.

  • Monitor and process online orders, notify customers when orders are ready for pickup, and follow up on overdue pickups.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records by archiving sold Shopify items, deactivating applicable ThriftCart listings, and updating daily listing records.
  • Update sales-tracking spreadsheets using Shopify, eBay, and other applicable sales data.
  • Schedule and maintain promotional discounts and website banners in Shopify, as directed.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in retail, warehouse operations, sales, customer service, or a related environment.
  • Experience with marketing, merchandising, e-commerce, or online sales is preferred.
  • Flexibility to work additional hours based on operational needs, including reporting early or remaining after a scheduled shift.

  • Basic knowledge of home-improvement products, furniture, appliances, and home décor.
  • Strong customer service, sales, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills, both in person and by telephone.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, with the ability to learn and use Shopify, eBay, ThriftCart, point-of-sale systems, and other applicable platforms.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when managing merchandise, inventory records, online orders, and sales information.
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities, meet deadlines, adapt to changing operational needs, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Dependability, initiative, flexibility, and the ability to collaborate effectively with employees and volunteers while assisting in different areas of store operations.

  • Ability to frequently bend, reach, push, pull, carry, and move merchandise.
  • Ability to lift and move merchandise weighing up to 75 pounds, independently or with assistance and appropriate equipment.
