About SafeHouse Denver: SafeHouse Denver is the only organization in the City and County of Denver that provides both emergency shelter and non-residential counseling and advocacy services exclusively to adult, child, and youth survivors of domestic violence. Founded in 1977, SafeHouse Denver is deeply rooted in a mission to support survivors in reclaiming their lives.
Position Summary: The Director of Survivor Services is responsible for ensuring survivor-centered programs are delivered effectively, timely, and meet organizational objectives. The DOSS will provide oversight and supervision to the residential Shift Managers and the non-residential Counseling and Advocacy staff, serve as a task supervisor for interns, and ensure cross-programmatic collaboration through trauma-informed direction and support. The DOSS will be co-located, spending time at both the residential and non-residential locations. The DOSS will support the CPO an ESP Manager with collaboration on data analysis to ensure data-driven services, occasional community engagement and education opportunities, and applicable programmatic support for grant reporting and other organizational needs. The DOSS is a part of SafeHouse Denver’s Leadership Team helping to inform organizational cohesion and direction. The role will also rotate with members of the leadership team as on-call executive manager for 24/7 residential services approximately 1 week/month.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Survivor Services Strategy & Program Design
Lead the strategic development and evolution of survivor services in alignment with organizational priorities and survivor needs with both a residential and non-residential lens.
Identify service gaps, emerging trends, and opportunities for innovation within survivor programming in both residential and non-residential frameworks.
Research and propose survivor-services–specific models, best practices, and program enhancements in collaboration with residential and non-residential direct service team members.
Support monthly program data collection and analysis in partnership with data leadership and managers.
Translate data into practice guidance, program adjustments, and strategic recommendations.
Partner with the CPO and ESP Manager to ensure survivor services align with cross-program strategy, capacity, and resource realities.
2. Staff Leadership, Supervision & Professional Development
Provide direct supervision, coaching, and leadership to:
Counseling and Advocacy Center staff (3-4 staff members)
Oversees hiring, onboarding, and offboarding of program staff.
Foster a culture of psychological safety, accountability, and professional growth.
Define survivor-services competencies, learning priorities, and professional development needs.
Accountable for performance management and role clarity at the leadership level.
Supports as rotating on-call executive manager for 24/7 residential services 1 week/month with leadership team.
3. Cross-Program Collaboration & Community Partnerships
Support the collaboration of both residential and non-residential staff to promote alignment and continuity across both survivor-centered programs.
Provide consultation and strategic support to all direct services staff as needed, particularly during periods of change, complexity, or service integration.
Contribute survivor-services expertise to cross-program planning, problem-solving, and service coordination.
Support shared understanding of survivor pathways across programs for continuity of care while respecting role boundaries.
Support development and facilitation of external survivor-services–related trainings and educational partnerships.
Ensure external trainings and partnerships align with SafeHouse Denver’s mission, survivor-centered values, and practice standards.
Serve as a senior survivor-services representative in coordinated community response efforts and multidisciplinary systems.
Maintain relationships with survivor-services partners, advocacy networks, and community collaborators.
Partner with the CPO, CEO, and Community Education staff when survivor-services expertise is required in external engagements.
4. Equity, Trauma-Informed Practice & Values Alignment
Ensure survivor services are grounded in trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and survivor-centered practice.
Assess how policies, practices, and service models impact marginalized survivor communities.
Support staff navigating emotional labor, ethical complexity, and secondary trauma.
Model values-based leadership consistent with SafeHouse Denver’s mission and commitments to equity and inclusion.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, public health, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
Previous supervisory experience is required. Demonstrated experience leading teams through complexity, change, and emotionally demanding work.
Strong grounding in trauma-informed, equity-centered, and survivor-led practice. Must have a passion for improving outcomes for domestic violence survivors.
A thorough understanding of program outcomes, data collection, and analysis of data trends is required.
Proven success in developing and evaluating program needs and operationalizing programming is required.
Must be well organized, have a positive attitude, the ability to uphold people & programs of accountability, and demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
