The Opportunity

We’re looking to fill a BI Analyst & Developer position at RFA Bank of Canada!

This role will go beyond traditional report development and play a critical part in bridging business requirements, dashboard design, and reporting delivery. 

As the BI Analyst & Developer, you will:

BI & Reporting Delivery:

  • Work with business stakeholders (Data Stewards and Data Owners) as well as analysts, and business subject matter experts to design, develop, and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards.
  • Collaborate with business users to understand data requirements and translate them into well-designed reporting solutions, ensuring alignment with technology (scalability, quality, security, maintainability) and business goals.
  • Work with the IT team to monitor and review performance of the reports addressing any issues.
  • Ensure data security and compliance with relevant standards and regulations, including maintaining user access controls and ensuring data privacy.
  • Implement SQL queries, stored procedures, and functions as required to support the reports.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in reporting tools and data management to continually improve processes and systems.
  • Maintain documentation of report creation and maintenance processes.
  • Adhere to the Bank’s control processes to implement reports into production.

 

Business Requirements & Process improvements:

  • Lead end-to-end requirements gathering across business units (Finance, Risk, Operations etc.) for reporting and data needs.
  • Translate business needs into clear, structured documentation, including:
    • Business requirements
    • Functional requirements
    • Data requirements (sources, granularity, refresh frequency)
    • Business rules and logic
  • Facilitate discussions and workshops to clarify business objectives, KPIs, and decision-making requirements.
  • Translate business requirements into Data Models, technical specifications, and reports/dashboard designs.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify and standardize the business process with a focus on continuous, incremental improvements.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation and data lineage to support auditability and governance.
  • Ensure all requirements are aligned with enterprise data governance standards and definitions.

 

Datamart & Data Collaboration:

  • Work closely with IT development and data architecture teams to support the design and implementation of centralized datamarts for enterprise reporting.
  • Define and document data requirements, structures, and business logic to enable effective datamart development.
  • Translate business needs into clear technical specifications for implementation by development teams.
  • Review and validate data outputs to ensure alignment with business requirements, logic, and definitions.
  • Support testing, reconciliation, and issue resolution across source systems, datamarts, and reporting layers.

 

Collaboration & Documentation:

  • Participate in the Data Governance Working Group (DGWG).
  • Support enterprise initiatives related to data standardization, reporting consistency, and metadata management (Dataedo).

 

 

What You’ll Need to Succeed

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience with PowerBI development and report/dashboard creation (experience with SSRS or similar tools is an asset).
  • 2-4 years of experience working with SQL and relational databases, including writing queries, developing data models, and understanding data structures.
  • Experience gathering and documenting business, functional, and data requirements.
  • Experience working with or contributing to Data Warehouse or datamart solutions.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling concepts, including data structures, relationships, and transformations.
  • Experience with metadata management and data catalog tools (e.g., Dataedo or similar platforms) to support data documentation, lineage, and governance.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based data and reporting solutions.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts, ETL processes, and reporting best practices.
