What you will do:
The Boom Truck Operator (CDL Driver) is responsible for safely transporting, delivering, and placing building materials at customer jobsites using commercial boom truck equipment. This role combines commercial driving responsibilities with skilled boom operation to safely unload and position materials while maintaining compliance with DOT regulations, OSHA requirements, and company safety standards. The Boom Truck Operator works closely with dispatch, warehouse personnel, customers, and field teams to ensure materials are delivered accurately, safely, and efficiently. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, customer-oriented, and experienced operating commercial vehicles and hydraulic boom equipment.
Transportation & Delivery
Safely transport building materials, drywall, lumber, millwork, roofing products, and other construction materials to customer jobsites
Plan delivery routes while considering traffic, weather, road restrictions, and jobsite accessibility
Perform pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections in accordance with DOT/FMCSA regulations and company policies
Maintain regular communication with dispatch regarding delivery status, delays, route changes, and customer updates
Obtain customer signatures and delivery confirmations upon completion of deliveries
Boom Truck Operation
Safely operate hydraulic boom equipment to unload and place materials at customer jobsites
Perform boom lifts while following all company safety procedures, OSHA regulations, and safe lifting practices
Assess jobsites prior to boom operation to identify hazards and ensure safe equipment setup
Position materials accurately to meet customer requirements while minimizing product damage
Monitor boom operation and equipment performance throughout the lifting process
Follow all hoisting requirements and applicable licensing regulations where required
Loading & Material Handling
Secure materials properly before transport using approved load securement methods
Verify load accuracy before departing the branch
Assist warehouse personnel with loading materials onto delivery vehicles
Inspect materials for damage and verify quantities prior to delivery
Assist customers with unloading and placement of materials when appropriate
Complete touch-freight activities as operational needs require
Equipment & Documentation
Perform daily equipment inspections, including boom systems, hydraulic components, vehicle safety systems, and load securement equipment
Maintain assigned company vehicle and boom equipment in clean, safe, and professional condition
Complete inspection reports, electronic logs, delivery documentation, and equipment records accurately
Report equipment damage, maintenance concerns, or safety issues immediately
Maintain required operating certifications and licenses
Customer Service
Deliver exceptional customer service during every delivery
Communicate professionally with customers, contractors, builders, and field personnel
Resolve delivery concerns professionally while representing QXO in a positive manner
Maintain professional appearance and conduct during customer interactions
Safety & Compliance
Follow all DOT/FMCSA regulations, OSHA requirements, company driving policies, and PPE standards
Promote a safety-first culture by identifying and reporting unsafe conditions
Ensure safe loading, transportation, boom operation, and material placement
Protect company assets, customer property, and surrounding structures during boom operations
Perform additional duties as assigned

Applicable hoisting or crane operator certification where required by state or local regulations
Clean driving record and ability to satisfy company driving requirements
Previous boom truck or hydraulic crane operation experience preferred
Experience delivering building materials, drywall, lumber, millwork, roofing products, or similar materials preferred
Forklift experience or material handling certification is a plus
Ability to pass DOT physical, drug screening, and background requirements as applicable
Primarily field-based with frequent driving throughout assigned delivery territories
Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, construction sites, warehouses, and customer facilities
Frequent operation of commercial vehicles, hydraulic boom equipment, and material handling equipment
Ability to climb, bend, reach, lift, and safely enter or exit commercial vehicles throughout the workday
Ability to frequently lift, push, pull, and carry materials weighing up to 75 pounds using proper lifting techniques
Ability to safely perform elevated lifting operations using boom equipment
May require overtime, weekends, or flexible schedules based on customer and operational needs
