The Veteran Coordinator facilitates combat trauma support groups and provides one-on-one peer mentoring for veterans. They are responsible for responding to crisis situations and tracking veteran progress through internal and external programs.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of lived experience. Required certifications in mental health peer support and crisis intervention must be obtained within six months of employment.
The Veteran Coordinator will contribute to the mission of PTSD Foundation of America to bring hope and healing to Combat Veterans and their families suffering from the effects of combat-related Post Traumatic Stress. We attempt to bring healing by directly providing evidence-based peer-to-peer mentoring, both on an individual basis and in group settings.
Job Description: Performs novice skilled work in promoting overall success of the Outreach Program’s mission as set forth by The PTSD Foundation of America by executing daily operations under direction of the General Manager.
Responsibilities: The Veteran Coordinator has the following responsibilities and duties:
• Possess some knowledge of PTSD and general mental disorders, psychosocial aspects of PTSD and general mental disorders, and understanding the needs of the Veteran Community.
• Facilitate and promote Combat Trauma Support Groups while tracking attendance.
• Ability to work with colleagues, external audiences, and supportive services for Veterans.
• Responsible for facilitating support groups and member one-on-ones.
• Respond to Veteran-in-crisis situations.
• Track the progress of Veterans through Camp Hope and external programs.
• Participate in Veteran functions, fundraisers, and Community events.
• Keep management informed with detailed and accurate reports or presentations.
• Ensure relevant standards, process and regulations are upheld.
• Good report writing skills with exceptional interpersonal skills.
• Any additional duties as assigned.
Requirements: The Veteran Coordinator should have the following skills, education, and experience:
• HS Diploma or GED
• Minimum 1 year of lived experience.
• Complete 30-hour Care and Counsel for Combat Trauma class, CPR certification, and ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) Certifications within 6 months of employment
• Completed Mental Health Peer Support (MHPS), Recovery Support Peer Specialist (RSPS), and Crisis Incident Stress Management (CISM) or state equivalent within 6 months of employment.
• Competency in Microsoft (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word)
• Has a go-getter attitude with the ability to deliver results and work autonomously.
• Experience facilitating meetings.
• Self-care activities that encompasses self-preservation of mind, body, soul, and spirit to maintain safety, competence, and continue personal and professional growth.
• Willingness to travel frequently. 75%
Physical Requirements:
• Regularly requires sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
• Occasional exposure to air and blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
Compensation: The PTSD Foundation offers the following compensation:
• Salary: $18 - $21 per hour (Veteran Coordinator level (I,II,III) based on certifications, education & experience)

The PTSD Foundation of America and Camp Hope provide hope and healing to Veterans and their families suffering from the invisible wounds of combat-related post-traumatic stress. Our story began in 2005, when a group of dedicated volunteers took to the streets of Houston searching for homeless Veterans. That mission has since evolved into a national movement aimed at reducing the Veteran suicide rate and empowering Veterans to rediscover purpose and hope. Camp Hope, located in northwest Houston, is our cornerstone program—a six-to-nine-month interim housing initiative offering a holistic, whole-person approach to recovery. Here, combat Veterans receive peer-to-peer support, mentoring, counseling, and professional development as they work through trauma in a safe and structured environment. For those not needing residential care, our five regional Chapters host Warrior Groups—confidential peer-led gatherings that provide fellowship and understanding. These groups serve both Veterans and their families, including spouses, parents, siblings, and children, creating a network of support for everyone affected by PTSD. Our Family Groups help loved ones manage their own mental health and deepen their understanding of PTSD, creating stronger, more resilient homes. Since its founding, Camp Hope has helped more than 2,300 combat Veterans. Each year, we serve more, offering a path from darkness to light. Healing is possible. You are not alone.
